I just found a dusk shroud and it has reasonable defense. I was wondering how i can get 3 sockets on it, instead of 4? is there a cube formula? thanks, much appreciated.

Here's 1 way:

1 Tal Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Topaz + Normal Body Armor = Socketed Body Armor of same type

you'd have a 1/6 chance of getting 3 sockets. 1/2 chance of getting 4.

1 El Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Armor = Normal Quality Armor of same type

Would give it an Ilvl of 1. If you then use Larzuk, you'll get 3 sockets.

Normally Larzuk would give you 4... Unless you get the Ilvl down under 24.

If you can manage that... you'd get 3 sockets.

It won't drop with an Ilvl of under 24 though... so you have to use the Cube to manage that. And the only way I know how to do it is with the way I described.

thanks for ur help, going to use ur cube formula.. *sigh. .1/6 chance.. lets see if my luck is good today.

It depends on where you found it. If you picked it up on NM then Larzuk will give you 3 sockets; if you found it on Hell then he'll give you 4.

I can't speak to the new cubing forulae ... haven't dug through it ... and taking a chance is exactly that!

hmmm i was browsing through the diabloii.net horadric cube recipies and it says that tal + thul + ptopaz + armor will give me its MAX # of sockets. are thy wrong?.. .again? lol

I doesn't excactly work that way, Larzuk quest depends on Ilvl, and any white/ethereal item with an Ilvl >40 (starting roughly from act2 NM) will get the max sockets of that given item
