Okay so I hear this big patch is coming, I'm not sure what I as a player will get out of it.

My best character was my WD but even then could only play in, I swear this is ridiculous, can't even think of the term, power level 3 or whatever it is, geez brain fart.

I had max magic find and around paragon 50 something. I used to find a legendary every few weeks and got so pissed off with the lousy drop rates I stopped playing, it wasn't Diablo any more for me.

So I have been without D3 for around 13 months. The last 4 months I've played POE and enjoyed it somewhat, but again drops are lacking.

So this new patch is coming, will it harken back to the old days, will phat lewtz really drop, or is it some Jedi mind trick to bring me back?

I would love to come back to D3, missed the old days, I want them back bwahaaaaaa.

Thanks :)

Afaik droprates in 2.0.1 isnt anything good, but at least in RoS it does sound like you can find decent items relatively fast. Not because legendaries drop all the time, but because when an item drop, the chance of it not being utterly useless is somewhat higher - contrary to D3s style.
It might not be D2 drop frequency though. Blizzard seems afraid of giving out loot "too fast" - resulting in the opposite.

I casually poked around the PTR for about 3 hours not doing any intense farming or anything, just poking about to see the changes and whatnot - in that time I found 4 legs. All of them were upgrades. Yes, drop rates are vastly higher.

Drop rates are much better this time around. I'd played the PTR for about 2 months, a couple of nights a week and I had a full tab of legendaries. This doesn't include all the legendaries I was actually using on my 4 lvl 60 characters or the ones I'd already salvaged.
The legendaries that do drop are actually useful 90% of the time.
That plus the way they changed the surivablitly and the new difficulty system is very much a reason for me to start playing this game again on live.

Drop rates aren't insanely high now, but you will definitely find more than before. Also, previously, most legendary drops were worthless, with only a few being usable. Now, that's reversed: most legendaries or sets will be upgrades, with only a few really unfortunate rolls being true garbage.

Drop rates in this game depend heavily on your playstyle.
A crypt run with a Paragon 100 char @ MP10 got me anything between 2-8 legendaries every 40 minutes.

Now you will see much, much less legendaries, but they will be of better quality.

To sum up - you'll get better legs more often than previously. Now you're gonna choose skills depending on legs you have.
After playing on PTR I can say that it's simply way better game then before. It's hard to believe that spend so much time with D3V, looking at 2.0.1 and it's changes. The game is funnier then ever, especially if you last time played 13 months ago. There is still some isues, minor and major, but it's really enjoyable.

These sound like good changes , thanks , much easier hearing peoples thoughts than looking at patch notes , read all the notes today but still a thing or two that confuses me .

Yeah MP3 , I could only play MP3 , that was my brain fart in my original post , I couldn't for the life of me remember that , old age setting in :)

If you could only play MP 3, then you should stay out of Torment entirely and play either Expert or Master, depending on your gear level. It shouldn't be too hard to upgrade enough gear to get up to Torment though; once you have over 100k DPS and 400k Toughness you should be able to do Torment I at least. The Toughness part is really the important part of that: my friend started today with about 70k DPS, and he could survive on Torment I, he just took a while to kill things. Monster health scaling is actually not that bad in regards to the shift between Torment I and VI; rather, enemies deal a lot more damage on the higher difficulties. To deal with higher difficulties, you should either have enough DPS and Toughness to survive, or have sub-par DPS but make up for it with high Healing (LoH, LoK, Life Regen, etc.).

You should be able to find some upgrades pretty quickly once you start, though. Of particular note is that the Archon armors will be very useful to you in terms of upgrading quickly and efficiently. All of them have been changed to inherently roll between 300-329 of the chosen stat, and all of them are smart drops by default (because all crafted gear is smart drops), so you can quickly boost your stats. I would say that you should be able to double your toughness at least with an expenditure of around 500k gold in crafting costs. If you are poor, and 500k gold is a lot, go finish quests. Each quest gives you about 30-40k gold, and crafting each piece costs 50-75k gold. Finally, to start crafting, you need Common Debris, which is the new crafting material from salvaging white items. White items are actually quite rare now, but they drop almost all the time from weapon/armor racks. As a result, the best place to get whites is Act I Cathedral and Act III Stonefort/Bridge of Korsik. Fortunately, each white/grey item salvages into 6-9 Common Debris, and each craft costs 15, so you should be able to rack up materials fairly quickly. During that time farming you'll also probably find some legendaries/sets, which at your level will automatically be upgrades even if they roll the worst possible rolls. Average rolls have been heightened significantly: whereas in the old D3 an item could roll 1-200 of a stat, in 2.0.1 it will now roll about 140-200. As a result, for your level, even the crappy rolls should still be serviceable, if not necessarily good.

Finally, in terms of what to upgrade first from crafting, I would say do Shoulders first, then Bracers, and then Gloves. Shoulders are cheap and cost very little crafting mats, and they are very easy to get good rolls from. Just get ~300 mainstat, ~200 Vit, some kind of AR/Armor and something else, and you're good to go. You should be able to get something like this in 3-5 crafts; less if you're lucky. Next is Bracers. The mainstat is guaranteed again, so all you really need is Vit and CC to be ready to go. However, Bracers can roll 'elemental skills of element X deal X% additional damage,' which is a very strong modifier if you are playing with many skills that share an element. As a result, if you can't find Bracers with CC but you can get one with decent additional elemental damage, you can probably stick with it. Finally, Gloves are hard to get a good upgrade on, since there are a lot of possible modifiers for them. Mainstat, Vit and CC are the best rolls, but since you're gear is not high-tier you should be able to find a good upgrade fairly quickly. If you are interested in playing a build with low cooldowns or resource costs, Gloves can roll cooldown reduction and resource cost reduction, so you might think about taking a roll with one of those but no CC. The Archon chestpiece can roll nicely, but it is the most expensive of them and costs a lot of materials, so you might not want to risk it.

This guide should get you at least to the point of being able to be comfortable around Master difficulty, which should be enough to get you started. One final piece of advice is to try to play in a party with people. You get more experience thanks to the multi-player buff, and since you can only trade with people who found a legendary in the same game with you, you'll have a better chance of trading for something that you can use.

Legendary drop rates are higher but it doesn't mean all the legendary items are good. You want to farm torment for the better legendary items.

This sorta gives the impression that non-torment legendary drops are crap, which is really not the case.

I haven't touched diablo 3 in about the same time, looking forward to getting back into sanctuary in time for RoS
I'm in the same boat. I stopped before the Paragon levels were introduced (I did come back a few weeks after they were released to play a few games, but haven't played since).

I heard that the drop rates were much better and the loot got better (my biggest gripes). So, I think I'll give it another chance. The only thing I'm disliking is it sounds like all the good builds got nerfed to the point that I doubt my characters would be worth anything now.

I had a Barb, DH and Monk to 60. I checked to see if I could find the character forum on here, but it appears to be gone. I am downloading the game now. I may check it out and see what's new.

Played for a couple of days now . I have found 0 upgrades for my WD , that is , if I drop my all res gear for 0 - 1 res stat , then yeah .

Also finding very little in the way of legendaries , 2 in quite a few hours played over the last couple of days and again upgrades don't have any MF now , so I have to drop my MF to get a little upgrade , which in turn will get me less drops . I can't seem to win with this game .

Rares seem very samey to me now , unless I'm just having bad RNG , it got to the point yesterday I barely looked at rares and just salvaged em .

Having another go today , but not been that well geared can only play on hard , maybe expert .

I also think the problem is having a full Zuni set , the rares just don't offset the mods I will lose .

I'll give it another go today .

When I get my power supply, I'm restarting from scratch, deleting my characters and going from level uno when RoS comes out.
