So, a team of doctors walks into a liquor store...

Hospital Gives Man Drip Feed of Alcohol

    1) For those who disbelieve this treatment, they do the same thing for people who ingest Methanol (wood alcohol). The enzymes responsible for breaking methanol down preferentially binds to ethanol, so administering lots of Jim Beam will keep the methanol from being processed in that way. Why? Well, alcohols are metabolized in this method to aldahydes...and methanol becomes formaldahyde. Yeah, the smelly fixative.

    2) Best excuse for a bar run ever. "Er, sorry blokes! Gotta pop over to Uncle Jimmy's Liquor Store for a patient. Can't deal with that explosive colon that just came in."

ah, a TV show. The only TV I watch anymore is a few minutes of Conan as I'm falling asleep and a few minutes of the local NBC channel as I get dressed to go to work. That's provided I even turn the idiot box on when I go to bed

We used to do this many years ago. We served people who had drunk methanol and wern't in too bad of a condition ethanol (regular alchohol) in glasses. However as expected there was an increase in alchoholics who was admitted due to methanol intoxication, as the rumour spread that you got free drinks if you drank methanol. Since then we always administer th ethanol directely to the blood stream. You won't get the psyhological "kick" from it then obviously.

It might make a difference in the way it is handled at the blood-brain barrier, but I wouldn't know why.

Maybe he meant you wouldn't satisfy the psychological need to have a drink in your hand/taste it.

Yes the latter is what i meant. I worded it wrong. No difference in anything but the psychological effect (placebo) between intravenous or oral administration, when similar total concentration of alcohol.

Just make them drink their alcohol in the form of Chartreuse. They will never ever drink meths again. Except if their only options are meths and Chartreuse, of course.
