Smiting Trist

Is it possible to solo a smiter through trist without exile? Right now I have a Head Hunter's Glory, on an 84 1-pt smiter. Will that do?
Other equipment is as follows:
Guillaums helm
Stormlash scourge
Duress wyrmhide
Nosferatus
Raven Frost
Carrion Wind
Magnus' Skin gloves
Gores
With this setup, my smite dmg comes up to about 600 with BC, and the crushing blow is yet to be counted up, since I am at work without game capabilities. I know that CB is what I need, but does the smite dmg matter?

When I get home, I will post stats and things, please bear with me.

That looks fine, although I would switch the gloves out to Dracul's for the Life Tap and Open Wounds. Exile is not an essential item. Crushing blow is the real killer; the actual smite damage doesn't matter much. It will only take a few extra seconds to bring them down with your low actual smite damage.

You have 98% crushing blow by the way.

You don't need Exile. If you can get CB, lifetap, maximum blocking and a certain amount of excess resists from other sources, a smiter or a zealot can solo Tristram with the shield he gets for free at L1. It would involve a higher investition into dex and res, however

When I was a little poorer, I used Moser's with 2 pdiamonds on my zealot IIRC and I was till able to do Tristram, although it involved a little more dying. Now he has 125% excess resists from charms, HoZ and CoH and the OKs around über Izual have become the most dangerous part of the process :azn:

I don't have a HoZ at my disposal, but I do have a 4 pdiamond pally shield, which already has some good resists, so that should work well. I'll pile all my resist all scs onto him, and all my lifer scs. Anything else I need? Will maxing my merc's defense allow him to stay alive, or is that futile?

yeh i have seen high mercs with sick gear get owned as soon as they walk in so yeh merc is no use. Life Tap wand might be nice to pre cast

Yeah get a life tap wand for the initial cast, then it is all gravy from there.
I would rather not trade for one of those, since I hear they can get expensive, so do any merchants carry them? Or will I have to find one?

Life tap is a must for survival; or at least it makes it much easier. Just buy one as a previous poster mentioned; it usually doesn't take long for one to show up on the screen. I "shopped" one with 25 fire resist and 2 sockets, nice for me because I sometimes don't switch weapons fast and can use the extra resists from socketing the wand with somecheaper resist jewels.

I shopped Charsi and got several blades with the lifetap mod on them. My smealot is still using a Stormshield, works for me. :wink3:
