SmiterMimer vs. Mini-Ubers

Today my t-key and h-key running sorc (Mimer) had a really good day of finding keys (found 3 t-keys and 3 h-keys) and paved the way for my smiter (SmiterMimer) to solo the mini-ubers. As this was my first time fighting the mini-ubers (and building a smiter), I really did not know what to expect.

The 1st area spawned was the furnace of pain. Hearing that really fast pit lords were around, I proceeded inch by inch as I entered the dungeon. Good thing too as I quickly found out that the bane of smiters, oblivion knights, were also around. These guys made my going extra slow as I made sure to draw away and kill the melee attackers before engaging the oblivion knights up close. I was iron maidened only once, and it was while drawing away the melee attackers so I wasn't dealing any damage, luckily :). Izual was a breeze as he was alone and was promptly smited to death.

The 2nd area was the Matron's Den. After going through the furnace of pain without a single death, I got cocky and found myself surrounded by a champion pack of dark lancers near the opening portal. My life tap procted but couldn't help as I was stabbed to death. I was stabbed to death once again when I went in to retrieve my corpse :/. After exiting the game to retrieve my corpse, I figured that the only way I would be able to finish the den alone would be by drawing the pack away from the portal to some distant corner of the map so I suicidally charged through the portal and around the map until I got to a dead end and died. Using another exit to retrieve my corpse, I was back at the start of the map with my gear and portal safe :). I proceeded in the opposite direction that I drew the champion pack and made sure I lured lancers and other fast melee rogues to the doorways so that I could fight them 1 on 1, or at worst, 1 on 2. This made for slow going but I finally got to Lilith at the end of the dungeon (luckily she was not on the side of the dungeon where I suicidally led the pack) and she was alone so my smiter made quick work of her too (with a few brushes with death).

After that was the Forgotten Sands. I had read that Duriel attacks you right out of the portal and that it was quote "easy to avoid the other monsters," so I had entered the portal thinking this would be a 5 minute encounter with me smiting the big maggot to death. It turned out that Duriel was no where to be found and that there were a ton of physical immunes around. Luckily I had equipped my smiter with a gimmershred as he had trouble with physical immunes all through hell. Unluckily, I wasn't far thinking enough to get conviction so each physical immune pack took a loooooong time to clear. Finally I got bored and started charging around the map with town portals on right click (for tping out of sticky situations). I finally found (was surprised by) Duriel in the last area I charged through and he was surrounded by a bunch of physical immunes. As I ran back to the portal like a little girl, I was quickly slaughtered by Duriel. A exit and restart later, I managed to smite Duriel to death while being beat on by 3-4 physical immunes.

Some lessons I learned from this:
1. When outgunned, use the doorways and obstacles to take advantage of the poor monster AI.
2. 1 pt of vigor should have been gotten to run away better.
3. At least 1 pt should have been put into conviction to handle physical immunes better.
4. Don't underestimate Act 1 creatures. (Should have learned this from the damn quill rats)

Tomorrow, I will be taking on uber-tristram alone with my smiter. I've read poorman's tale of dealing with the ubers and am hoping my nice decent gear will be able to make up for not having mad diablo 2 skills. Any advice forum members can give a smiter about uber tristram would be greatly appreciated :).

Re: SmiterMimer vs. Mini-Ubers

@mime

I've done a bunch of ubers with similarly bad gear (although I've had a BO'er friend)

and Tristram <<<<< Miniubers in difficulty

However, it looks like you don't have a lifetap wand which IMO you need.Also, make sure you have enough resist to = 300 in hell to combat Meph.

secondly, carry a full rack (4/*4) of manapotions as baal + his minions suck mana quickly and no mana = death

Thirdly, try and lure them separately because for the ill equipped smiter, all three can be a problem + the lag can be horrendous from minion lag :)

Fourthly , if you need help, pm me :)
