skin of vmagi vs. trang scales

I'm building a fishymancer and deciding which is better. Vmagi has +1 skills, fcr, resists, while trang scales have +2 summoning and bigger defense. I'll also be using the trang gloves too.

fishymancer, which is why the +2 summon skills seem nice.

Though I eventuually plan on having a nigma.

I'd go with the trang armor......no real point in having the fcr anyways unless you'll be CE'ing alot (which you probably don't that much)

There was a comparison sometime ago of trang set vs. optimum gear, for a Fishymancer. Can't find it now but the outcome was that Trang was not so much worse.

Unless you can afford Enigma (the tp is awesome) or want to do MF with your fishy, Trang's set is a cheap and effective way to go.

Anyways, trangs armor is better than viper because of frw and summons

Can you afford enigma? everything is so much easier when your revives doesn't expire and skels lag behind because of the distance.

Odd that this thread should pop up now.

I have just today swapped out my Scales and I'm now using SotVM - specifically for Baal soloing. I was getting seriously owned by lightning damage in WSK, so I had to put T-gods on, which meant losing T-O's girth which meant Scales was no longer effective, elementally speaking.

When I tire of Baal. I'll go back to my Girth/Scales.

That's strange; I never have problems with resists when I'm wearing Trangs. I've socketed the shield with a perfect diamond and I have one 15% resist-all Grand Charm and a 11% Torch I think, but that's all. I didn't even socket the helm and armor yet.

Did you do all Anya quests?

Yes I did all the quests and no doubt lost the added resistances* in NM and Hell when I died (yes, my Fishymancer actually died in NM - never continue questing when your brain has seized up).

*you lose the rsistance bonuses when you die, right?

Both are good for Fishymancer.

Trang's --> stronger summons (and if you plan to use more pieces of the set)
Vipermagi --> better resists, fcr for Corpse Explosion fests (make sure you have the mana to support that)

Stronger summons are generally more helpful early on in Normal and Nightmare and Corpse Explosion comes to rule by Hell. Unless you are running godly gear ("Enigma," "Beast" Axe, "Infinity," etc.), generally CE will be your main method of damage in Hell, and casting Corpse Explosions faster will improve your kill rate a lot more as a Fishymancer than boosting your summons a bit with one more +skill. You don't need good fcr to make CE nice, but unleashing a torrent of explosions clears the screen quicker.

I thought you get it back when you re-enter game.
