Sin taxes - Good or bad?
So, I've been thinking about it, and I know some people think that sin taxes - the money that ends up going back to the government when we buy something like cigarettes, just because they're cigarettes - are a bad thing. Then I thought about it.. in Canada, we have free health care. So if the sin taxes are being put to use to treat people for killing themselves slowly, are they really such a bad thing?
I personally think that it depends on how they're being used. In Canada, we have free health care, and (theoretically, since it's debatable exactly where the money goes these days) so that money makes it's way back around. In the states, there's no such thing... it's just a tax so the government can rake in cash. Anyone have a different opinion?
