Capes sound like a good idea imo but whatever...

Just makes more sense than shoulder armour, we already have that with the chest armour in d2.

Re: Shoulder pads are for sissies

I think Blizzard should simplify armor a little bit. It's great that we have options to put armor in a million different places, but all this does is add an extra layer of balancing that just doesn't need it.

Helm
Chest
Legs
Arms

are pretty much good enough. Instead of spending time creating and balancing additional armor slots, they should be coming up with creative uses for the basic armors, such as Arms pieces that can clone itself to give you additional Arms or Legs that give you jumping abilities or Helmets that give your character drunk vision.

There's already other means of accessorizing such as rings, amulets, utility belt, and maybe even a cape/cloak if you feel shameless.

SHOULDER PADS ARE LAME!

Here's why -

One of the cool concepts of Diablo 2 is that there were 15 armors to choose from, giving plenty of ways to customize your character's appearance. (Then they ruined it once you get to high levels and most of the elite armors had strength requirements that were way too high to justify a tiny increase in defense, so there were really only a half dozen armor types worth wearing, but I digress.)

Some of the armor choices had shoulder pads, some did not. You had options to choose what look you preferred. But if they introduce a slot for shoulder pads in D3, there's no choice any more. "Wear shoulder pads or die" is an ultimatum, not a choice. You can argue that if you don't want to go for the big shoulder pad look (which would be a little awkward on casters, for example), then they can just include smaller shoulder pads that don't add bulk. But honestly then, what's the point?

Shoulder Pads are teh wiin.... Come on, who wouldnt a demon skull as a shoulder pad?
You completely missed the point of this thread, didn't you? He was refering to the actual term "Shoulder PADS", not their function in the game...

As both a football & soccer player, I'm happy that they didn't add a slot called shin guards, which would obviously be for grass fairies. :jig:

EDIT: Now to contribute to the thread...

If they were to interpret the "shoulder pad" slot more loosely, then caps, shoulder pads/paldrons/armor ect., or even necklesses could all be put into this one item slot. This would give a greater degree of visual character customization, while also preventing the problem of forcing an ugly look on someone.

To take this a step further, the basic small shoulder pad drops could be usable by all classes, but each class could also find different catagories of these items that are class specific. So maybe the witch doctor could equip a neckless of shrunken heads, while the wizards could equip various kinds of caps, and the barbarian could wear an assortment of nasy spiked or skulled puldrons.

Shoulder pads are a pussification of the classes and I for one don't like it very much. Should armor is where it's at. That's what a real man would wear if he chose to wear shoulder armor at all. I agree with the name change.

And wait until you see some of the shoulder armor for the barbarian. You won't complain about it then.
