    Should I get an Xbox?

    here is my situation,
    I own ps2 & gamecube
I'm planning on getting Xbox360 at launch

there is a deal where I can trade away my useless unused PS1 and N64 and some games for $100 credit towards an Xbox, which is about double what they're worth

so the question is, should I go ahead and get an Xbox now with this real nice deal or just wait 'til 360 rolls around

when 360 comes out I could probably trade in an Xbox towards 360 for ~$100 so I end up in pretty good shape still

what do you think I should do?
don't give me any "micro$soft is evil!!1" crap or get all fanboy on me, I need honest opinions, seems like a great deal trading off my useless old systems and some useless old games

    [poll coming]

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Go for it! If you don't you will probably always regret it.

    Keep your old games...

Any Nintendo games can be played on the new system when it comes out, can't they?

all the more reason to get rid of them

Revolution will be able to download the old N64 games, I doubt it will have a cartridge slot for them

I don't believe you can play the games off the new nintendo by using the old cartages. You have to download the old games on to the revolution. The revolution won't have a cartage slot just a dvd/mini dvd.

Ash are you sure you want to get rid of your 64? That is one of the best consoles IMO.

Ah, I didn't realise that, go ahead and get the X-Box then, the deal sounds good. Get me one while your there... ;)

It's a shame you can't use the old games, I was going to go to car-boot sales and buy up the old classics to sell once the console came out. :(

Then I would get an Xbox, you can use your nice new Xbox and someone else can enjoy your old games :D. and like you say, you can always trade in your xbox for a 360 later.

I'd hold out for the 360. Rumor has it to be released in November or possibly the beginning of December, so you're looking at only 5 or maybe 6 months away. And from what I've read about backward compatability, it will be able to play most of the Xbox games present now. They are focusing on making the best-selling titles work, and they've said that since the best titles push the Xbox to its limit, if they can emulate those, the lesser known titles will be easy to emulate. I read something somewhere that said if it didn't reach the bargin bin in a month, the title will probably be emulated.

I know it's a bit of speculation, but I think after the 360 comes out, the Xbox will be near useless if you have a 360. Although as Eronak says, if you get an Xbox, you'll most likely be able to trade it in for the 360 when it comes out. I just wonder how much you'll get for it.

Trade it in somewhere that'll give you credit towards WoW. $100 should get you the game and a few months worth of game cards.

Hell, we were talking about forming a "recruit Ash" fund drive in our guild forum to buy you the stinking game. You know you want to...

micro$soft is evil!!1 BillG just needs to get the bugs out of the mind control module.

Well, you knew it was coming.

Seriously, how much time can you devote to console gaming in the first place? Don't you have pals with their own systems? Seems like a lot of money to lay out for what is probably the lesser of the 3 platforms.

Oh, and just give your old X-crud to charity. Get a write-off on your taxes.

Get the 360, but unless you have money to burn, wait a month or 2 after release, the price will soon drop, especially since PS3 is scheduled to come out a couple of months later, microsoft will be wanting to get as many people as possible to buy the 360, so will probably drop prices fast.

In the most recent issue of EGM, the July '05 issue, they have a large section reporting on the 360. In the article, it says the 360 WON'T be backwards compatible which is a real shame. So if there are some games on current Xbox system that you really want to play, it might be better to get it along with the 360. However, 360 games are looking to be awesome, and their online support --things like DLable content, free online membership, and gamer linkings-- is looking to be fantastic, so maybe saving all your money for that would be a better idea. *shrug* I personally would never sell my N64.
Really there's only 1 person who can decide, and that's yourself.

And yes, the system is due out this fall.

    don't bother
I don't have a computer that can run it and I don't want to play it

not gonna happen, you'll have more fun without me anyways

and yea, I realize the xbox will be pointless when 360 comes out, but if I get an xbox now I can have some fun with it and not have to get the 360 right at launch and be more patient and backwards compatibility is still up in the air

I just don't see myself as having much to lose in this situation, I doubt I'll miss the ps1 or n64

The truth is, all XBOX systems are gonna blow...stick with PS and GC, and never ever sell your old systems.
