Shieldless Avenger? I have been using an avenger (standard build, PvM, Ladder) for some time now but I wanted to try something different. I love the way a pally looks with a big damage maul in his hand and was wondering if anyone has tried to make an avenger without using holy shield, nor a shield at all. You could save quite a few points going this route and have a LOT more damage, but i wonder how successful it would be in hell since you don't have the blocking/resists from shield (which could be obtained from charms)/ and Huge defence boost you normally get because of the use of holy shield. If anyone has tried this out, I would be really interested in finding out how you faired in Hell, and what you would suggest. Thank you, Wimpus_Maximus

The thing with the IK set is that you're already getting a good amount of elemental damage. Vengeance is based on the physical damage you do. If the elemental damage is already good, it may be more to your liking to Zeal with the IK maul (and all its elemental damage).
I've tried it. Even with full resists (95) you're getting your *** kicked. You do a lot of damage but since it is mostly elemental there is little or no life leech. And thats bad!
... but the dmg on IK maul isn't counting as any or what? (i dont know the normal dmg on a wep in 1.10...) anyway, i guess a something like this would be ultimate or simething near... Eth. BotD thunder maul upg. shaft upg. gaze Verdungus Gore Riders dunno gloves raven leech ring cresent moon amy or Maras maybee, dunno 15 Vengeanze 15 res L/C/F (all) 20 Conviction 20 Salvation str to wear, dex to hit, vit the rest... or something
Do you get your *** kicked because you don't have a shield, though? Does the blocking really make that much of a difference? As I see it, your giving up any chance to block in doing it this way, and giving up the HUGE defence boost you would have gotten from Holy Shield. Other than that it should be roughly the same, except you have a lot more skill points to redistribute and you'll do a lot more damage. I'm thinking that using it as my weapon switch might be a good idea against single enemies. Do you think that is a good idea, or that I'll end up as milk-toast? Wimpus_Maximus
But rememember all the new elemental damage on the stone crusher will get a damage bonus from conviction. This build has ridiculous FHR which will be nice for a shieldless build. I think you need to have a plan to leech possibly on every third/fifth hit. I wish this build had Cobra Strike, like an Assassin so that it could leech back
