Shield question for Sorc

I looking for a high res shield and wanted advice
Should I sacrifice defence ie go from 97 def to 36 def??
Is it better to get a high blocking chance? Less def
Can you actually get a 3 socketed grim shield??
Basically just want good shield advice :)

Thanks

there is no such thing as a 3 os grim shield. Go for a 4 os kite shield and put 4 pdiamonds into it. Blocking in classic is not determined by dexterity. Instead, the %chance of block on the shield is all that determines it.

oops my bad, thats a typo. I meant 3 os kite shields.
Can someone point me in the right direction or know the answer

What is the relationship to def.

Like I have a shield with 50% chance of blocking 30/20 and 97 def

I then get a 3 socket shield with 36 def, 46% chance of blocking and 30/20

Is def that important? Are there any point breaks on defence?

Thanks for all the help

there are no defence break points. That small difference in the shield is insignificant. I would go with the 3 os shield anyway because you can get lots of resists from that.

Since you stated you wanted a high res sheid...that should be the most important thing to look for. Definately go for the 3 os sheild, never never sacrifice resistance for defense if your res isn't 75 in hell.

Should you ever sacrifice anything for defense on a sorcy? Seems pretty futile considering the attack rating of most barbs.

well you should either shoot for high defence, or completely ignore it.

Some sorcs actually do use ornates///grim shield etc. and have -reqs and lots of + life to make up for it.

Their defence with 1 pnt shiver armr can be pretty decent.

get a superior 3os towersheild with +10-15% defense and socket with 3Pdiamonds or 1Ptopaz1Psaphire1Pruby (+40% each) if you have high base res and just need a top up.
otherwise +57 all res and 44%blocking (wich can be brought up by twitch) is more than enough considering you arent standing still waiting to get hit. if you are really worried about defense drop a point into one of teh cold armours it can increase youre defense by 30% for frozen armour and 45% for the other 2. one point is enough no need to max it but put a couple more points if you dont have pluss skills and need more defense. in 1.09 most sorcs maxed shiver armour. dont pu points into it for the freeze length or the cold damage it gets nerfed in nm and hell games, the +defense% is the only reason for this skill.
youre defense wont do much against a barb with a high attack ratting, he will still hit you and with a sorcs low health he only needs to land a couple hits.

didnt see youre post fredsta, good point on the ornates.

This is most common for pvm sorcs. although mage plates are common for pvm and pvp as they have much much lower req. and still have moderatly high def.

I think sardoniclysane found the comment funny but the post was not necessary.
