if you can afford it, the 100+ life/mana, 10% dmg reduction and 2 skills are just great.

shako stands very far above any other helm a caster can get.

Tarnhelm is just Shako's little "brother" if you can have the bigger brother go for it! ALOT better, just LOOK at the stats of both Helmets and there should be NO time for thinking baout which descision you make?!?!

I use Tarnhelm as twinking gear when i build new sorcs, but thats it. Gets replaced by Lore-Runeword-helmet at lvl22...., which apart from MF/Gold is between Shako and Tarn in its usefulness.

I like to see peasent crown as shako's little brother, meli ;) I mean it's really like the exceptional version of the elite helm....

Go for shako and your mana/life/mf/damage problems will decrease significantly. Same with the oculus. Once you get those, the whole game is pretty much easy if you play right

That's what I thought. Like Shako, Peasant Crown has +life, + skill, +mana and the same item type.

    2 Skills
    135 Life (at lvl 90)
    135 Mana (at lvl 90)
    10% DR
    +2 All Stats
    50 MF

    vs

    1 Skills
    20 Life
    20 Mana
    15% Frw
    Life Regen

    vs

    +1 Skills
    25-50 MF

On the other hand, Tarnhelm will always have a special place in my heart, since its from Wagner's Ring des Nibelungen series, in which the Tarnhelm was a magical helm which transformed Fafner into a dragon :)

what skills are you using at lvl 15 that need to be boosted? as other people have pointed out, peasant crown is superior at level 29. i found that before that, a 2 tir helm was far superior (and for some builds, more useful than the crown after lvl 29.)

the only case i can think of for the tarnhelm is low level mf'ing. again: why? what are you going/able to run at lvl 15?

for most builds (especially sorc) skills are not the main killer until lvl 24 or 30.

i think the tarn needs a normal emerald or amythiest, tir, or maybe 15 max damage jewel to make it useful, but even then, it's only useful for a very short time.

It helps since there's alreay other +1 gear that you can use at that lvl, eye of etlich, 3 piece angelic with amu, arcanna's death wand. +3 skills at lvl 15 boost my warmth and the attack spells i use at that time. also it boosts any of the cold armor i could use.

If you make a lightning based build those +3 skills help alot in the early stage, for lightning or CB for example.

Agreed, i only use it for a short time, but thats why its called twinking, no?

On the MFpart, unless you are starting untwinked its absolutly no use since you will sweep through the game too fast.

Heh, actually making my Fball sorc I used a +3 fball+2 static field staff runeword leaf, so i had +6 fball +6 warmth. Thats some + skills that help at lower lvl.

and some cold armor aswell :(
Hmm getting basic ones with +3 warmth and shiver armor should'nt be to hard. I have seen those at Drognan.
Something like this would be nice
    +3 warmth
    +2 static
    +2 frozen/shiver armor

How many addtional mods can there be on those stave that you can buy?

oh, i've tried. tried and tried and tried. i had one once, but i sold it. i figured, just like you, another one would be easy to get. :(

the dilemma is this: the higher lvl you are, the less likely they will sell white or grey staves. however, the lower your level, the less money you can carry.

not sure about other bonuses you can get. i don't think it's a true class-specific item, so no bonus life/mana.

    Shako
Pro: Huge Life and Mana Boost, Great MF, +2 skill, 10% DR
Con:Ugly, No resists, everyone and his cousin has one

    Rare Tiara
Pro:Looks Awesome, yours is unique. You can get all kinds of bonus. ie Fast Cast, Fast Walk, Resist, Skills, etc
Con: Difficult to find a great one. Can't get the kind of Mana and Life Boost from Shako or the huge MF

I personally use a Rare Tiara, with Fast Walk, Resists, +2 Skills and Mana(57)
