Setting up wireless TCP/IP game help

Hello all! Searched around the forums here, and other places, but I cannot find out any info. What I would like to do is host a games on my desktop pc, and be able to join it with my laptop via wifi, or I could have some buddies bring their laptops over, and they could join via wifi. I have tried using the external IP from whatsmyip.com, but the laptop cannot connect to it. I am using a Linksys wifi router on the deskstop. I know about port forwarding and setting up the router, but since this is connecting via the intranet, I shouldn't have to mess with that, correct?

I suppose I could plug the laptop into the router, but that seems like a waste of wifi!

Thanks!

Jive

Did you disable your windows firewall? If its a LAN setup, the Diablo game
will display the i.p. address needed for the other computers so they can hook up.

That's not the ip you should use. Do what okiimatsu said. I've never connected via wifi, but it shouldn't make any difference. Once a laptop is connected to your network, connecting to the ip that diablo gives you should work.

If you are hosting over LAN you can use the external or interal IP, it doesn't matter. However if you use the external IP you need to tell the router to forward the d2 game to the correct internal IP address of the host machine.

Windows firewall is best turned off.

It's totally irrelevent if you are on wireless. I have six d2 capable machines in this house and two are on wireless. I have hosted MP games on wireless and no one has noticed. You just need a half decent signal.

(Yes I do own that many CD keys, before anyone gets clever.)
