"Send a Mule"

Hello,

I'm new here and recently I won an an item in the trading forum. The seller has asked that I "Send a mule." This term is not in the 2008 Terms thread. I replied back via PM to the seller asking him or her what specifically that means, but it has been over a day and I have not received a responce. Not wishing to hold up the seller any more than necessary, I've sought an answer here.

Thanks in advance!

Re: "Send a Mule"

I think he meant you PM him a mule account (preferrably) with an empty character on it, which can hold your item. For safety reasons it's best to have that account totally empty, but for the characters and that the password differs from your main one. This way you can't lose anything and the forumite in question can dump the item on that empty char on his own discretion.
He will probably PM back once the item is in place.

After that you just mule that item back to your personal mules and change the password again for safety.

edit: yesssss! Pwnd Gornman.

Re: "Send a Mule"

The term "send a mule" or "mule trade" means that the buyer should create an account not associated with your main account and to place the items in the trade on a new character, or mule. The buyer then sends a PM with the account name and password of the mule account. Once the seller receives payment, he/she will send a PM back to confirm the transaction, and the items you have bought will be on the same mule account you created previously.

Traders use this method due to location/schedule difference, so it may be difficult to arrange an in-game trade. It is akin to a "shipping and handling" kind of deal you see on eBay and other online sites. In-game trades can be akin to actually visiting that seller's store and completing the exchange in person.

Re: "Send a Mule"

That's what I thought, but I wanted to be 100% sure before acting upon something which may potentally lose me gear or make me look silly. Come to think of it, I was probably more worried about the latter than the former. :p

hisakix,

Good advice about the passwords there. Everything should have been common sense, but it's amazing how uncommon common sense can be at times. I appreciate you, and everyone else, explaining this.

Thank you.

Re: "Send a Mule"

Just remember, since you are not doing a trade in the trade window, you are putting your items at risk of losing them. It is possible that you may deal with someone who will take your item and not deliver theirs to you. Odds are better for honesty dealing with people in this forum, but nothing is guaranteed. It is a common form of trading here, but
Mule sender beware!
