Is it a drop or do you buy them?

If it can be bought then I can't imagine ever not using it.

They drop, a lot. I truthfully haven't used them since the patch.

Edit: Just check the vendors in Tristram and neither of them sell these scrolls. But they are fairly common drops.

I am torn. I dislike the idea of these, but I wonder if I dislike it as much as I dislike picking up gold drops in DII from every single mob. In DII I can just skip them, but I understand that in DIII gold matters, so this is potentially a good solution.

Apparently it's identical to the Demon Hunter's ferret companion that they get from putting an alabaster rune in their companion skill...

"Tremble Diablo! My fluffy ferret and I will skin you for good this time!"

*Diablo looks at you, then thoughfully looks at your ferret:*

    "WTF?!"

(Shudder) Joking aside, they could do better. Why not a hiena? Much better i think

I think a ferret makes sense for what it does. When you have the Companion skill runed to ferret I don't believe it does anything combat related, just runs around and picks up gold. Seems like a Hyena would be a weird choice for that.

From what I've seen, this is in the like 2% of things I really don't like about the game.

There's literally a fluffy bunny that will follow you around and collect gold while you slay hell's demons. What. the. ****.

edit: and if you like the idea of a "pet" collecting gold drops for you... how about a greedy imp, or a magical wisp, or something else that would work with the diablo world. pretty much anything besides a fluffy bunny.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

Yeah I really don't get that.

I appreciate that they're willing to get weird with the scrolls and consumables, certainly. I'm always up for weird.

But can you imagine strolling through the depths of hell with like a cat running behind you? It just doesn't make sense.

Especially since they don't seem to wander very far from your side, and you pick up gold by walking over it.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

I LOVE the idea of something/someone ELSE wasting 100APM to pick up 5golds which does add after 9hour game marathon.

Problem is, like some others have pointed out, its a freaking bunny? or are you guys being sarcastic.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

I am assuming it just picks a random critter from the game world. I've seen snake, a kind of bug/roach, a bunny, a rat, and some others. I try not to pay attention to it. In videos, that is.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

It's a random critter, I've seen a scorpion and a rat on the rare instances I've used them.

Additionally, gold is now picked up simply by walking over it. I think the critter scroll is really just a fun little addition. It doesn't improve your experience that much imo.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

If it can also pick up specific items or rarities we choose, that'd be awesome or even better we can run over items that we have pre-selected to pick up along with the gold?

Make it a bit easier so you can spend more APM on killing rather than sorting/glancing thru junk

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

Well.. While I have nothing against pets I have some mixed feelings about that whole gold pickup stuff. Check some of the gameplay videos: did you notice that even if a character runs really close to the pile of gold it VERY often stays unpicked? Another thing, I saw a special magic bonus on items that increases the radius for gold autopickup. I REALLY don't like this idea. It's not a packman FFS!

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

I have a feeling this was just to troll on torchlight during beta seeing how the dog/cat/slime in torchlight was such a major feature.

Seriously, I dont see the usefulness of these pets especially with the limited duration of 5 minutes. In most of the stream I saw, the streamer still walks over gold to pick them up even with a pet summoned. Or he forgots to summon the pet after 5 minutes is up.

    Re: Scroll of Companion?

Maybe at higher levels there are other types of companion scrolls: ones that pick up items for instance, or other vanity pets. I guess they would sell on the AH for a bit later on.

    I like it though.
