    Scones!

I was in the grocery store the other day, wanting something sweet, when I spied a box of blueberry scones. They said scones, but looking at them I saw buiscits. Blueberry buiscits fit the bill though, so I moved in for a closer look. They seemed a bit pricey (about 3.5~4 dollars) but they looked extremely tasty and perhaps a little bit delicious so I put them in the cart. Skip a bit...

Later that evening I think to myself "Self, a blueberry buiscit (who says 'scone,' honestly?) would taste pretty good right about now." So I cracked open the box and made an unpleasant discovery. Rather than being tasty and perhaps even delicious my scones were soggy (yeah, they're scones now. buiscits sure aren't soggy). They were about the consistency of uncooked dough. Which is truly odd since they gave every appearance of having been cooked well.

The question then, is this: What do I do with them? Try to fix them (perhaps a short stint in the oven)? Take them back to the store? Chalk it up to experience and make another trip to the dumpster? Try to eat them as they are? 0_o

Well, it probably isn't worth going back to the store to get your 4 bucks back, and since throwing them out is just giving up, I'd say you should bake them for a while...it might fix them.

I'm siding with this one....No one has ever said, hey, I think I'll go to a british restaurant, save maybe durf. but anyhoo, Brits are not known for their ability to cook, but for their liklihood of hiring cooks.

but hey, thanks for giving them a shot so I don't have to. They sound gross and I've never had one.

Does anyone with some cooking experience want to suggest a temperature and time? I don't want to burn the apartment down. (But don't think I won't if I have to!)

Oi! I'll have you know I can make a mean cheese and ham sandwich

Anyway... Tarnok, if they are 'soggy' then something is up, perhaps condensation has got to them or something. Anyway, if I thought that they were still okay i'd put them under a low grill for a little while as an experiment.

    Just a thought.

ADDED: And what is wrong with having a nice cup of tea at 5.00pm?

    Jumpin jehosephat!

It's ham and cheese, not cheese and ham. Color and humor, sheesh!

    5:00 pm is Miller Time.

No wonder you guys lost the war of 1812.

Only scones I ever see are ones with raisins. And most baked things with raisins should be thrown at someone IMO so...

Well, I was about to cook them when, upon closer inspection, I noticed that one of them was moldy. Not suprising considering the moist condition of the box of baked goods as a whole, but I don't plan on eating them now. Looks like throwing them away wins. I am now annoyed at the grocery store.

Why would you want ham and cheese anyways, ketchup and peanut butter is far better. Or is it peanut butter and ketchup  ?

put one or two in the oven and see how they taste. If its worse, eat them anyway and eat the rest. If they taste better, bake em all and eat them.

    No wastage.

So what are scones anyways? You mentioned biscuits, but are you talking about biscuit biscuits ( like in biscuits and gravy or fried chicken and biscuits) or cookies?

Btw, good call on dumping them. Cooked rotten scones aren't going to be any better than undercooked rotten scones.

I know alot of people that go to British resturaunts. Of course we're in England, so that maybe why ;). But there are the same ratio of good cooks to horrid here as anywhere in the world I'd be willing to bet. I don't really count, not being native probably.

I do know British food used to be more bland, nowhere near the seasonings as alot of countries. But things have come a long way. Hell, some of the stuff I come up with is boring compared to what I see being done nowadays.

And there isn't one thing wrong with a good cuppa, no matter what the time :).

Oh, and Scones are like American Biscuits, like the Biscuit and Gravy kind. Though different. Biscuits are like American Cookies, though different ;)
