Sanctuary + Crescent Moon for lightning sorc

I was wondering if this would be worth it i farmed the runes... and got a lucky mal drop :jig: just um thats kinda expensive to waste :p so I wanted to make sure that it was worth it and also what shield/sword should i put it in if its worth it?

I was hoping to make a lightning sorc that can kill immunes and well everything else...

Was thinking for rest of my gear

Grifins head
Cresent moon sword
sanctuary shield
tal rajas neck
tal rajas belt
tal rajas chest
(insert random boots and gloves something with casting speed?)
(insert random rings i duno what to put here eaither :p)

would it be better to get another shield or something or a magespike, i just wanna be able to kill immunes... working on the runes for Infinity on my merc atm...

was gonna make my build

20 charged
20 lightning
20 cl
20 lightning mastery
20 nova
1 static
1 warmth
1 storm
1 tele
1 telekenisis

thats 105 points so thats about it in my book maby put the rest in energy shield have a staff that gives +3 es and +2 all skills tho so ive been usin that :D

Also what stats should I get? im onna remake my char 82 sorc down the drain >.< to make this my main/final char

Re: Sanctuary + Crescent Moon for lightning sorc

Cresent Moon is an underrated weapon for a litesorc. The -35% ELR won't break immunities (only Lower Resist or Conviction can do that), but it'll help your effective damage quite a bit (despite the lack of +skills, depending on an enemy's natural lightning resistance, it sometimes provides more overall damage than more popular options like Eschuta's, HotO, or whatever).

The biggest problem with the CM though is its lack of other caster mods that you get from a good weapon - most notably Faster Cast Rate. Often times it's not the quantity of damage that you do, but the speed at which you deliver it that's important, and that's why CM might not be the best option for a weapon.

Sanctuary has some fantastic stats, but in all honesty many of those stats are more suited to a melee build. I have used it on one of my Enchantresses and have no complaints in that regard, but otherwise I've seldom even considered it for any of my caster-sorcs, let alone used it. If I desperately need the resistances on a caster, I'd rather have a Wizardspike for a weapon for the great FCR and mana to go with the resists, then use my shield to help meet other needs.

As for your build overall:

- Until you get Infinity, you'll be relying entirely on your merc (or other party members) for killing lightning immune monsters. You can purchase a wand with lower-resistance charges (used on weapon switch) to enable you to kill some immunes on your own, but when I tried that solution I found it more tedious than effective, and therefore I don't recommend it. Without Infinity though, there really isn't much for a pure-lightning sorc to do against lightning immunes (the knockback on telekinesis still works, so you can use that to help your merc a little, but that's pretty minor overall).

- Overall, a lightning sorc should look for equipment with: +skills, +Faster Cast Rate, +mana, and +resistances more than anything else. The next, almost-as-important mods would probably contain +life and -enemy resistances. Even on an MF sorc, I'll always put these before MF (to a reasonable extent).

The equipment you've listed is great in a couple of areas (+life and lowered enemy resistances), ok in some others (+resistances), but you're somewhat lacking in +skills, FCR and mana, which are three of the most important.

So, although it's a generic approach, it's one of the best...

- 'Spirit' is simply one of the best shields you can imagine.
- Likewise, I'd gear your weapon around +skills and reaching a fast FCR breakpoint (HotO, Eschuta's, Occulus, or mybe even DFathom come to mind).
- Those two slots, on top of the Griffon's helm and Magefist gloves can address your FCR and mana needs, as well as give you a very respectable start on your resistances, +skills, and lowered enemy resistance.
- you can keep the Tal's items to give you nice MF and almost polish off your resistances
- which leaves your boots, rings, and charms to customize your other needs, whatever those needs may be

As for stats, if you use a Spirit shield, don't put anything in Dexterity. Depending on your items and charms, you'll need to spend ~100-150 points in strength to equip the shield, and the rest can pretty much go into Vitality (although ~25 in Energy won't really hurt, and it'll help a little if you're having mana problems).

Re: Sanctuary + Crescent Moon for lightning sorc

is there any other element that mobs are less imune to like fire? i heard lightning was the "easiest" to break

i basically just want a "solo anything" sorc :/

EDIT: Um and what shield to use for spirit? i looked and well the 200 or so countess runs ave me enough spare stuff to make it just off the bat

EDIT2/PS: and what can i do to keep my merc from dying from those dam archers... you know the ones...

Immunes are too common for most single-element sorcs to solo everything. Litesorcs with an Infinity merc is the only real option until you start delving into dual-tree builds, but other single-element sorcs pretty much stick to a few areas/monsters where they don't have to face immunes. There are a few dual-tree builds that have decent power though, and those have a lot more flexibility. Meteorb, CL/FO, and Blizzballer all are fairly strong, but there are other options too.

(and lightning IS the easiest immune to break, fire is sometimes possible/sometimes not, and cold is impossible most of the time)

Spirit = monarch shield. It's heavy at 156 strength required, but it's the lightest non-paladin shield that you can get 4 sockets from (the other 4-socket options are quite a bit heavier)

Damage Reduction equipment will help your merc on Countess runs (most of the archer damage is physical). I like a VampireGaze (helm) and Shaftstop (armor), and maybe even a Reaper's Toll if you can get by without the mana regeneration from Insight.
