running and defense

I read somewhere (maybe Hal's conc guide) that when you are running your block rate drops to 1/3 and defense to zero! Is that correct? In order to get that effect, do I actually need to be in the act of running, or is it enough just to have "run mode" on, even if you stand still? :xrein:

im pretty sure that its if you're in the "act" of running!
if you have run mode on and are standing still you should be fine!!
this is most important when you get mobbed by monsters and you need the get away! it is MUCH safer to walk away then run and this also applies in melee duels!!

ive always found that putting 1 point into leap attack and setting up a hotkey for it is the best way to escape a mob!!

Thanks for the answer! I was worried about having to press 'R' to set run mode off just before starting a duel! That should make a huge difference both in PvM and PvP... Does it mean that, for example when an amazon is shooting at you or another barb doing WW at you, it would be better to walk than to run in order to avoid beeing hit?

Another related question: Do barbs WW faster when run mode is on? I heard WW hits more when you are slow...

WW hits more if you are slowed by freezing. That is why sometimes WW barbs dont wear Ravens or anything that Prevents Freezing in duels since freezing would cause them to whirl slower and therefore land more hits.

Of course, that is only useful for melee dueling and characters that are trying to get close to you, because the last thing you want is to be stuck in the middle of a BvC fight desperately attempting in vain to chase down those damn runners while frozen.
