Runewords: where to put them?

Runewords: where to put them?

I've just got my hands on a few HRs for the first time since I play D2, and I am thinking of making a few runewords out of them. I've got 2xJahs, 1xLo and 1xOhm at the moment, so I will aim to trade a Jah/Ohm for a Ber and make enigma, and make a fort with the Lo.

The question is where to put these valuable runewords? I know it depends on the character class I am playing (I play fishy necro and plan to build a hammer/smite pally at the moment), but are there any general guidelines/preferences on where to put them?

Any inputs are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

You mean like what armor base? Enigma and Fort are usually made in an Archon Plate, Dusk Shroud, or Mage Plate.

People always want to put enigma in archon plate for better defense overall or Scarab Husk or Wyrmhide - with 450 base defense - for less str requirements.

If you want to make a fortitude for your mercenary-right?, then you will need to find a 4os ethereal glitched armor which has base defense of 1000+ and gives the armor over 3k defense when fort is made in it. This might costs around Mal-Ist and don't break in your merc.

Thanks for the answers.

Just curious to ask:
Why Mage plate for enigma? If it is for str issues, investing a couple more of str points can get you dusk, which has much higher def than mage plate.

Re: Runewords: where to put them?

Quilted armor, leather armor, hard leather armor, studded leather, breast plates and light plates (and all the exceptional/elite counterparts) are light armors, meaning they have the lowest run speed penalty of all armors.

Their reqs are also quite low. Defense isn't that important in this game anyway.

Fortitude has 200% enhanced defense, so maybe it should be put in an archon plate.

If you're gonna make a char who gets alot of strength anyway, you can make it in an archon plate or dusk shroud

Re: Runewords: where to put them?

MP requires 55 str, dusk 77.

The 22 difference means 44 hit points. With CTA this could be up to 70 or so. Remember enigma adds no %ED but +integer defense. Therefore the end difference is mp ~1k defense, AP ~ 1.3k. The 300 defense does not work out to that much in the end.

Also with MP,
1. you can usually equip with just torch and anni (maybe one other minor str add item), without any adds in str. When you die, you dont need to equip + str items just to reclaim your body.
2. MP superior always gets 3 sox.
3. Dusk 15ED 3sox are just rare. Buying one (IF someone even sells one) is gonna cost you a hr or two.

Re: Runewords: where to put them?

For regular runewords, I always take the level requirements of the runewords themselves when selecting which items to place them into.

For example, a "Delerium" has a level requirement for characters level 51 and up. Therefore I would find a helm-class item with that same level requirement minimum.

Of course if you are seeking a specific skill provided by that runeword, feel free to "up-level" it into any item of your choice.
