The only catch is that the item must be grey in color and have the correct amount of sockets. And yes it will retain the mods on it. This is a common thing to do with 'staffmods' and runewords. It is the only way to get more then +6 to any one skill other then finding it on a unique item.red_devil said:suppose if i find superior socketed maul that has some properties and i make a rune work out of it.. will the original mods of the superior items be retained..

i think the original mods remain...red_devil said:suppose if i find superior socketed maul that has some properties and i make a rune work out of it.. will the original mods of the superior items be retained..

I can attest to that. I once made 'Honor' out of a superior divine scepter back in 1.09 and the total repair cost was more than a character could carry.FrolfFreak said:Just one thing that i've seen people lament. Repairs on good runeword-ed items can get prohibitively expensive if the base item was superior or had really good "staff mods". I've heard, er, read, about repairs for a Chaos claw costing tens or even hundred's of thousands for a handful of durability points. An alternative is the repair recipe involving Ort gems, but Ort's don't exactly grow on trees. So a normal socketed item may be the best bet in the long run.

Obviously this depends on the runeword and who will be using it. If the runeword makes for an indestructable or auto-repairing item, it's a waste NOT to use superiors (although granted, there aren't many such runewords and if you've managed to get all those high-end runes, repair costs probably aren't an issue anyway). Superior bows, obviously, are perfect for runewords, as are anything you plan to put on a merc.FrolfFreak said:Just one thing that i've seen people lament.
