Run vs. Walk

Run vs. Walk

.

What is the definitive difference between run and walk?
ie. when a mob swings, while you're running by, do you get less def than if you were walking by, and is the chance to block any different?

I have tried extensively with claw block, and it seems that running vs. walking makes absolutely no difference with claw block.
It seems like claw/claw simply does not ever work when you are moving (not 1/3 but simply 0% chance), regardless of whether you're walking or running.

Shield block, on the other hand does seem to trigger while moving, albeit much less often.
I'm wondering if it's worth it, to walk instead of run (maybe less def or block penalty?).

Defense is set to 0 when running, if I remember correctly... I don't play assassins much at all (played two, just to find out I preferred the other characters) but my paladins seem to block anything, even while running. This may be due to me always getting 75% block on my paladins.

The only case where I noticed a great difference was on my TO necromancers. The TO set sets your W = R anyway, so I tried W instead. I found out about it by accident while running away from some VERY fast dark lancers (or vile lancers or whatever) that I got hit alot while my stamina was still not depleted, but as soon as it depleted, I got hit much less. (While still moving at running speed).

This is a really good question and I would love to know the answer too. I have a paladin with about 18k def with holy shield and 75% block but while running he gets hit MUCH more than the character info screen would have me believe. It's not uncommon to be hit 3, 4 or more times in a row without blocking while running past creatures with a <20% chance to hit me (all the while with 75% block).

While running, your block rate is decreased to 1/3. If I remember correctly, the assassins weapon block isn't affected by this penalty.

As far as defence goes, running will make all attempts to hit bypass the chance to hit formula (quoted from RTB).

Also note, charging isn't counted as running, it's counted as attacking.

Orphan is right. However, a monster needs some time for its blow and you can outrun it. Blocking works at 1/3 effectiveness, the cap being divided by 3 as well. I don't know about weapon block.

That's because Weapon Block doesn't work at all when running or walking.

Thanx for the replies.

hmm, let me clarify my post.
I know running reduces block 1/3 and 0 defense.

What I am wondering is, does walk also reduce block 1/3 and 0 defense?
Or is walk block 1/3 and full defense?
Or is walk full block and full defense?

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth walking at all.
From what I've read, both penalties (blocking and defense) apply to "running".
But, in application, I am pretty sure I do not block 75% while walking.
That seems to indicate that walking also has penalties.
Walking negates your claw block just as running does, and so I wonder about shield block and defense.
Anytime a mob hits or doesn't hit, it could also be caused by desync, that's why this is so hard to test...

While walking, you retain maximum defence and block rate. This is why it's always important to walk around in PvP.
