    Rules for Larzuk socket quest?

Have the rules for # of sockets changed regarding Larzuk's quest reward? How many sockets can magic (blue) items receive? Is it still 50% one socket, 50% two sockets?

    Nope, didn't change :

    magic : 1-2 (50/50%chance)
    rare/set/unique : 1
white/eth/sup : If Ilvl >40 it gets max sockets for that given item (Ilvl40 starts dropping after Act2 NM (a few places in Act1 too)

    circlet 1/2/2
    coronet 2/2/3
    diadems 1/2/3
    tiara 1/2/3
-orbs have a max of 2

On top of this, the number of sockets is semi-random. Testing in single player (where the same item can be used multiple times, by exiting the game without saving) has yielded varying numbers of sockets, using the exact same item and quest reward. The number you get seems to be +/- 1 from what you'd expect the max to be for that item.

For this reason using the socketing quest to add sockets to normal items is not recommended, since the results are too unpredictable. It's best to try and find that item with the number of sockets you want, for a specific RuneWord, generally.

I think it is well worth it. I had a normal ethereal cryptic axe that I took to Larzuk in an effort to get a suitable wepon for RUNEWORD DOOM. I was happy to receive a 5 socket ethereal cryptic axe. It is worth it...I think?

As that chart shows, 5 is the most a Grand Matron Bow will get.

ahh so that explains why i cant seem to get a 4 socket flail when i try to socket it with larzuk...i bought one from act 2 normal Fara but how do i check the item level of the flail i bought to see if it is of sufficient level to get 4 sockets instead of 3?

The only way (without using hacks or ATMA in sp) to check Ilvl is to know what monster dropped it (Ilvl=Mlvl), but when buing from NPC's I believe the Ilvl will be -4/+5 from your Clvl, and to get Ilvl 25-39 (for 4 soc) your char must be around lvl30 (notice I havent tested this, and cant say for sure if the -4/+5 applies in norm difficulty)

BTW: A tip to get a 3 socket armor from Larzuk, is to find a cracked/low quality etc. elite armor, use the repair recipe, and armor Ilvl will be set to 1, and therefore 3 soc from quest..

If that is true, then I guess the rules in SP are different than on the realms

I guess the chance of finding a cracked elite item is smaller than the chance of finding one with the correct number of sockets  although I admit that it adds to the total chance of getting one.

Probably yes in theory, but for me about the same amount of cracked armors have showed up as ones with 3 sockets..

btw : do you know the excact chances of an item being cracked (is it like superior 3-5% chance), and are you sure "in theory" that 3 socket armors are more common than cracked's?

Sorry, I don't have any numbers. I just cannot remember that I found a cracked elite armor more than once or twice. Grey stuff is noticed more easily than white stuff, so it's just a subjective impression, I guess.
