RoS Release Day Stability - What do you think?

Firstly, this is a selfish, frivolous post so if it gets removed I understand. :D

I have 1 vacation day available that I'd like to apply towards the RoS release. Problem is, I need to book it within the next few days. So... what do you guys think?

Will RoS have launch issues? Will they be much less severe than D3V? I know what Blizzard says (Error 37 has been deleted...) but I'm pretty sure they said something similar prior to the D3 launch. I got shafted by Error 37 then so, you know, fool me once...

Essentially I'm debating whether to book off the 25th, which theoretically allows me to login at midnight on the 24th and play to the wee hours of the morning. Nap for a few hours and then get up and spend the day working on levelling my Crusader. This option pretty much requires the digital purchase of D3RoS since there are no midnight openings at local stores this time. But, I get in as early as possible. Of course, I want to go hardcore, but launch day disconnections would totally suck.

Or, do I figure I'll lose the night of the 25th and I'm better off taking the 26th? I can pick up the game whenever on the 25th, play that night, if possible, and then have the whole next day. Initial server stability issues may have settled, and might be more hardcore-friendly. Sitting at work all day on the 25th will be so tough though.

I post this because I have a demanding full time job and kids. Play time is at a premium, but I can't wait to get on the Crusader and would like to be able to play through the storyline asap before all the spoilers come out. (Yes I care about the story. :p I don't think the overall story/lore in of itself is bad, and there are some really good tragic elements, but the problem was in its presentation - such as The Demon Heads of Neener Neener)

The optimist in me says that launch day will be fine this time around, primarily for two reasons:

1) It's very unlikely that more people will want to play simultaneously than when Classic was released. Their current infrastructure should be able to handle the load well.

2) The devs and their network team are more experienced now. Presumably they know much better what could go wrong and they can better prepare.

The realist in me simply says: s**t happens, always. Today's games are really complicated and they can brake in so many ways it's not even funny, especially when networking is involved. I think the chance of everything going smoothly is low.

Honestly, I would book that one day of vacation at least one week after the release of the expansion. It's better to be safe than to *Error 37*. :)

Agree with HardRock, anything can happen on launch day. I suggest taking either the 28 or the 31st off so you get a nice long weekend to play. :)

I agree with fmulder. I personally think that the game will be playable on launch day, but even so, it will probably be slower with the large number of people logging on. Booking the long weekend gives you a much longer amount of time to play, and if there are issues, then you haven't lost your chance because you still have the weekend.

Bah! You guys are all logical... Was hoping someone would convince me otherwise :D But, I agree, anything can happen and, plus, Blizzard downtimes are always the extended edition. Guaranteed play day post-launch it is... guess I'll just red-eye the launch week, work be damned heh.

Thanks for the replies btw, been really busy and haven't been on the forums to respond.

Less than 3 weeks to go!
