Rolling & Rune Questions

I've heard the term 'Rolling' and 'Re-Rolling' alot, and I was wondering what it means and how do you 'roll', heh.

Also, what gem do I need to transmute three Thul runes? Also, is this the only rune that requires a gem or gems to transmute? If not, what other ones? I really need to know, lol, I'm making runes, and hopefully I can get up to a Vex (If possible to make), and if it's not possible to make a Vex, what's the highest rune you could get up to using the Cube?

Thanks. ^_^

Transmuting Formulae
Listed below are the current recipes for the Horadric Cube. Simply place the items in the first half of the equation into the Cube and hit the Transmute Button to produce the item in the second half of the equation.

3 Runes of the Same Type (Runes 1-9) = 1 Higher Level Rune

3 El Runes -> 1 Eld Rune
3 Eld Runes -> 1 Tir Rune
3 Tir Runes -> 1 Nef Rune
3 Nef Runes -> 1 Eth Rune
3 Eth Runes -> 1 Ith Rune
3 Ith Runes -> 1 Tal Rune
3 Tal Runes -> 1 Ral Rune
3 Ral Runes -> 1 Ort Rune
3 Ort Runes -> 1 Thul Rune
Diablo II 1.10 Transmuting Formulae

3 Thul Runes + 1 Chipped Topaz = Amn Rune
3 Amn Runes + 1 Chipped Amethyst = Sol Rune
3 Sol Runes + 1 Chipped Sapphire = Shael Rune
3 Shael Runes + 1 Chipped Ruby = Dol Rune
The following Rune upgrade formulae will only work for Single-Player, Open, or Ladder Characters. They will not work for Normal Characters on the Realms.
3 Dol Runes + 1 Chipped Emerald = Hel Rune
3 Hel Runes + 1 Chipped Diamond = Io Rune
3 Io Runes + 1 Flawed Topaz = Lum Rune
3 Lum Runes + 1 Flawed Amethyst = Ko Rune
3 Ko Runes + 1 Flawed Sapphire = Fal Rune
3 Fal Runes + 1 Flawed Ruby = Lem Rune
3 Lem Runes + 1 Flawed Emerald = Pul Rune
2 Pul Runes + 1 Flawed Diamond = Um Rune
2 Um Runes + 1 Topaz = Mal Rune
2 Mal Runes + 1 Amethyst = Ist Rune
2 Ist Runes + 1 Sapphire = Gul Rune
2 Gul Runes + 1 Ruby = Vex Rune
2 Vex Runes + 1 Emerald = Ohm Rune
2 Ohm Runes + 1 Diamond = Lo Rune
2 Lo Runes + 1 Flawless Topaz = Sur Rune
2 Sur Runes + 1 Flawless Amethyst = Ber Rune
2 Ber Runes + 1 Flawless Sapphire = Jah Rune
2 Jah Runes + 1 Flawless Ruby = Cham Rune
2 Cham Runes + 1 Flawless Emerald = Zod Rune
hope this helps, all quoted from arreat summit.

rerolling simply means it'll change the property on an item, can work on charms. simply place 3pgems and the charm into cube and transmute. ppl tend to look for skillers as well as skiller +life. anything after a3nm trav can spawn into a skiller, but it'll take a number of rolls to even get one.

Oh, okay, thanks. But, I still don't get the rolling part.

From what I do get about rolling is placing a charm or item into a cube with three pgems, and then transmuting.

Hm, so if I place a crappy charm in the cube with 3 pgems, it could possibly become a charm with a +1 to a certain skills? What do you mean, lol..

Any magic item (blue text) can be rerolled with 3 pgems, and charms are magic items.

When you reroll, the game will generate a new charm of the same kind, just as if the same monster or chest dropped it again. It will get new random mods. It won't be able to get any mod, just any mod that the original dropping monster could have dropped (this is what people mean when they talk about item level or ilvl, its a hidden number on each item that shows how high level the original monster that dropped it was, which in turn means how high the random mods it could get when rerolled).

So, to get a +1 skill charm, it has to be a grand charm (only they can get +1 skills), and it has to have come from a monster that was at least level 50. It takes on average about 22 rerolls (66 gems) to get one skiller. It might be more or it might be less when you try.

And that's 2500 posts from me.

Congrats, but you should re-upload your avatar. It somehow got lost while the forums had problems again a few days ago.

For some reason GCs like to get +3 or +4 maxdmg when rerolling them, both being quite high ilvl mods. My cubes must be cursed somehow. That's why I didn't start rerolling GCs yet... and because I'm not rich enough yet in this ladder season to afford the luxury to put pgems into the black hole en masse :uhhuh:

Hm, okay, cool, I get it I think. One last question, though please.

Can it be any GC? Like, a GC from Act 5 in Hell? For example, take this situation:

I'm doing Baal runs in Hell, and I am going through Worldstone Keep Level 2. I kill one or those monsters with a sword in one hand, and it drops a GC. The GC is a +34 Mana. If I keep rolling and re-rolling that GC, would it be possible for me to get a skiller?

If not, then where could I get a GC that would let me get a skiller out of it if I keep re-rolling. Where in the game are there level 50 and above monsters?

u can reroll any gc, however for it to have a chance to become a +1 skiller one, it has to be around the nm a3 trav area. so in hell difficulty like u say here, it has a chance to become a skiller, it will just take some luck.

How about rolling runewords.
I was checking out prices on fleabay and I found a couple of Archon Engimas that were supposedly rolled. The text was crafted text (orange) so I take it they used the cube to reroll the crappy engima they had first created. And some number appears next to the number of sockets like (**).
