Rizzo's Charity Tourney -- Progress Thread

pwn_joo progressed a bit farther last night. I managed to work my way down to the Horadric Cube and collect both pieces of the Horadric Staff - a series of feats about which Deckard Cain was most excited. ::)

I was pretty happy as well except that getting through the Claw Viper Temple was really really bad on my HP supply. I'm currently sitting at 98/334 with still a third of an experience bar to go before I get to level 21. Hmmmmm. That's not too good. Especially since I've got my least favorite area of the game coming - the Palace Cellars. *cue scary music* Those archers down there are quite hurty and I can't seem to train my wolves to run around corners scouting for me. I'm considering going back to Act 1 and runing Andariel a few times hoping for some better gear and some experience points. I did find a nifty rare ring with +70-something AR, +3 mana, and 21% Magic Find. I imagine I'll be wearing that for a while. I've also found two copies of Hsaru's Belt.

Quick calculation has me at ~4-6 more points than my last update.

Just a quick update on Bhoot, who nearly got knocked out of Round 1 by Flame Spiders in the Spider Cavern. I forgot for a moment that Bone Armor does nothing against elemental damage, and got recovery locked by them. Fortunately, Isolde managed to cap one, and I got away. Got out of there quickly, and managed to level in the forest, and find the jade statue. A quick question about that for everyone... when i got the potion from Alkor, I had 39 life current / 326 max. When I drank it, I got 346 max, but only had 2 points added to my current total (for 41). Is this something you guys have experienced as well, that it adds only 10% to your current? I haven't noticed till now, but then again I haven't been paying such close attention to my life totals before ;)

On a random note, the MFing habit never goes away... even with the huge emphasis on survival I've kitted out my necro with ~90% MF. Here's a list of his finds so far:

1) Hsaru's Boots
2) Blood cresent scimitar
3) Death's Hand gloves
and the kicker:

4) 30% MF Nangelring

Another participant reached act III. King_Lear beat Duriel, albeit only at players 1 since I forgot to save/put points towards decrepify. He also reached level 25, so a total of 52 points so far.
Just a quick question, are you counting the two town WPs? I'm not trying to be rude, but was wondering about my own math being wrong (partially dsylexic). By my calculations you should have had: 5 (andy) + 5 (duriel) + 16 (all WPs first two acts) + 24 (levels gained) = 50. Please do correct me if I'm mistaken, and I'll freely apologize.

I have not made any progress in the last two days, RL took over.

Congratulations to StillMyst, Sir Lister and JMtistic, very impressive

Question for Rizzo, when these three finish Hell what are they going to do for round two?

Edit due to following post

AtomicBoo has made it to act 3 now. To my surprise, Duriel was a pushover, even for a Throwing barb with one Minion :p Anyway, the strategy was to use my Act 2 Defensive (Boosted Defense) Merc and Battle orders, he got over 470 HP, so he could tank. At the same time Boo was throwing Pilums from Behind and with whooping 535 HP. Oh, Boo also had dual Half freeze duration, so getting too slow was not an issue. Duriel still got a few hits on Boo, and he has 298 HP now (without BO) and Durga died ones, so I had to reviev him.

Status: Alive
24 Levels Gained
Act 1 All WP's = 8
Act 2 All WP's = 8
Act 1 Boss Dead = 5
Act 2 Boss Dead = 5
Total = 50

Just a quick note to say Gwar is progressing slowly but evenly. I'll update tonight with points but he's currently in the stony field with 137 life out of a possible 145.

You're not mistaken, so no need to apologize, but maybe Rizzo can give his thoughts on the matter.
I am counting the town waypoints in act II and III, not the one in act I since that is a given. I thought about this as well, but killing an act boss does not necessarily mean finding the next town waypoint. In act I and act III you can easily die after killing the act boss (it's happened to me at least once in each, but more in act III, partly due to having done more Meph than Andy runs, and partly due to the vampires behind Meph being very dangerous some times coupled with the Evil Forces, where any surviving bosspacks behind Andy are not so dangerous most of the time)

edit: I'll hopefully be able to check on the hitpoints later on, I don't think I ever drank the potion while not on full health, this time that's very likely if I get there.

Took Army_Of_Death out in to the scorching hot dessert last night, cleared out the first place (can't remember name) but had a close call in the Stony Tomb but leveled up right way  after that went and got the Cube wasen't much of a problem but those damn beetles are a right pain in the %$# oh well. Then off to get the Staff didn't have much trouble there either. I have got all Waypoints so far. And i am level 20

Xietiaoping made it to Act 2 with the fight with andy going really well, the merc died twice but she never touched me. I lvled off to fight her full health but that I guess was never really needed.

In the Jail lvl 2 I opened a chest to find Cleglaws Pincers which is huge! With the cold slowing effects + the 25% slower and taunt that I am using, not much ever touches me.

Had some computer troubles, I tried updating a couple of times in more lenghty forms, but never got through, and I have limited internet access at the moment. But I do have a screenie for the waypoints so far and my health after the andy fight!

http://img308.imageshack.us/my.php?image=waypointshealth7ik.jpg

Hopefully I did that right, never put a screenie up before...

If I have the point system right I have:
10 for Wp's
16 for clvl
5 for Act boss
= 31 please let me know if this is wrong... Thanks

Zdochliak reached OuterCloister without problem, im gonna be playin in a short while so i wont post my score now.

Rizzo i just have 1 question. What if somebody reaches Patriarch before the end of Round 6?? I mean it is most likely to happen in round 1 since there is only 1 rule :)

I very much doubt it will happen, gloams and vipers are as buggy as ever, although the latter can be skipped. Maybe it's possible to reach nightmare alive, but surviving nightmare? I severely doubt it, especially because of the gloams, and the fact that their attack pierces.

And another competitor enters Act 3! Duriel is down for the count. I ended up going back to the Lost City to level up and get my health back before entering the Palace Cellar. Turned out that is probably wasn't necessary. The biggest danger was those damn lightning towers in the Arcane Sanctuary. One hit from them cost me about 35 health!

I leveled up right before the Summoner, and made it to Duriel without losing very many hitpoints at all. The only thing that hit me from then on out was the Charged Bolts from the beetles. They're very hard to dodge. Duriel's drop was, as expected, pure crap. I haven't moved on to Act 3, but not left town yet. Points so far:
Lvl 24 = 23 points, Andy + Duriel = 10 points, 14 waypoints, and 9 quest points gives... 56 points!

Good luck to all! This will probably be my last update for a few days since I'm going backpacking until early next week. So no fair ending the round before I get back! :D

Have a fun vacation, whomhead!

Quick update: I'm not at home, so no interesting details. Borogove dashed from the Black Marsh to the Outer Cloister wp. Ran into a little sticky spot -- low on javs, didn't want to run out, so close to wp that I didn't want to waste a TP; switched to reg. attack + howl. Enough cold damage to freeze one in place, while the others ran away and my merc tagged the frozen monster. That only cost me about 10 hps total.

I don't remember what level he is. WPs = Cold Plains, Stony Field, Black Marsh, Outer Cloister. Will go back for Dark Wood later. Noting how far some have gotten already, I wonder whether my excessive caution is necessary. However, I should reread to see if any of these are barbs/melee.

Hooray!!

Zdochliak reached act II kewl :)

clvl 21 = 20 points
9 WPs for act1 = 9 points
1 WP for act2 = 1 point
andariel dead = 5 points
total 35 points

My necro has no strategy yet, what i do is I let gumby tank and my rouge merc kill.

A strange thing happened to me!! I never completed cain quest b/c i couldn't transtalte the scroll, but to my AMAZEMENT Deckard Cain was in Lut Golein... I clicked him and he said "Thanx to the Rouges I was saved" or something like this, I have never seen this before is this normal??

I believe it is. I have read that he will charge you to identify, but you don't have to buy those pesky scrolls. I don't know how much it costs, or whether it's worth it.

Congrats on the A2! Hope to be there myself before this round is over...we'll see...

@ Kugel: Yeah, it is normal. He charges 100 gold per item identified, as opposed to 80 for an id scroll. Of course, the only person we can buy id scrolls from is Drognan (others heal), so I guess we pay to avoid the hassle (and enjoy D1 flashbacks ;) ).

Congratulations to everyone who's still alive, it takes a lot of time and concentration, esp for all you silly barb chars :D

Heh, forget Normal, I'm worried about surviving the Great Marsh, esp since for the first time I"ll have to go through it to get to Flayer Jungle. Its the first place in the game where elemental damage becomes an issue. Bone Armor helps against the fetishes, but not against Gloams / swamp thingys. Currently Bhoot is out looking for a 3 socket shield / 2 socket head to fill with topazes / rubies

I already found a two socket head, now I just need a few more gems to put in them. The gloams in normal difficulty are not bugged iirc, still, finding the great march waypoint might be dangerous. Confuse deals quite well with dangerous monsters, but against the gloams the problem will be their piercing attack. In act II I had some problems especially with the greater mummy packs, until I started using confuse a lot. I wasn't managing well trying to raise skellies or corpse explode before they would resurrect, but when instead of raising skellies they started to attack each other, the problem was solved. I didn't know though that confuse also attracted monsters from further away, which made for some interesting situations.

Another way of dealing with gloams would be dim vision. As for non-necromancers, barbs have their warcries, assassins can use cloak of shadows, druids have some meat shield, paladins can convert, but how will sorcs and zons deal with them?

All town wp's are given, once you reach the town. Therefore they don't count.

Kugel said:

I'm setting up a limit so that won't happen.

UPDATE:

Just to make everything clear to everyone:

Rule 1: No life-leeching items, no life-leeching skills, no regenerative skills or items, no life-replinishing skills or items, no healing potions, no visits to any healer in any town at any time. You may not heal your minions or mercs, but you may resurrect them. You may not click on any healing shrines or wells.
ANYTHING REGENERATIVE, LIFE-LEECHING OR HEALING IS NOT ALLOWED, EXCEPT LEVELING UP.

Amazon: all skills allowed.
Assassin: Cobra Strike not allowed.
Barbarian: all skills allowed.
Druid: Feral Rage, Hunger, and Carrion Vine not allowed.
Necromancer: Blood Golem, Fire Golem, and Life Tap not allowed.
Paladin: Prayer, Cleansing, Redemption, Holy Bolt, and Fist Of The Heavens not allowed.
Sorceress: all skills allowed.

You may use sacrifice, but you are not allowed to balance out the life-steal. If you use sacrifice you will loose life with each swing.
Items or skills that adds to your maximum life is allowed.

If you have not followed the rules, you have to stop :(
No more restarts from now on.

LIMIT:
To make sure no one makes pat before Round 1 end, the limit for Round 1 is:
When everyone dies, or when the first players reaches act 1 nightmare (hope this doesn't happen before whomhead gets back :))

If someone reaches NM, you have to save & exit as soon as you see this in here, and stop playing your character. So please follow the progress of the other players in this thread. Then, after rule #2 has been announced, you may start up the character again. And please summarize your points (remember town wp's doesn't count, niether does the first level) and send them to me ([email protected]) or post em here.

Below the sheet of players. Please let me know your points if you've died and is not on the list. And please remember that the town waypoints of all town does NOT count!
