I'm still in, but Borogove has not yet gained any round 2 points. He will venture forth tonight and I will post an update tomorrow.

So the total score for King_Lear is now 99, of which 27 in round 2.
I guess after playing my Summoner all weekend, I better get back on my tourney character and try to catch up! :)

My reply was squidfood, but basically it came down to this:

You do have some more catching up to do since King_Lear did continue a bit.

First he went to try and reach level 45 in normal, with success, by clearing the Ancient's Way and the Worldston Keep level 2 and further. Minions and Baal were done at players 3 this time, and Baal dropped a Kuko Shakaku.

Then into nightmare with little difficulty until Andariel, she does pose so much of a difficulty that King_Lear went to get a break to think about how to deal with the Maiden of Anguish, while he is still alive with 305 life.

Current points are 50 (level 51) + 41 (all waypoints upto nightmare act I) + 25 (all normal act bosses), for a total of 116, of which 72 in round 1, so 44 in round 2.

Any tips on dealing with Andariel with a noncursing necromancer?

Sir ventured out into Act II with renewed confidence in his new killing technique. Light Crossbos in hand, he ventured through the desert sands with his hired help, Durga ( a defiance merc). No problems presented their ugly heads until Sir got to the False Tombs.

Fortunately with some careful positioning, and even more stategic letting my merc do all the killing, I managed to level up before the real tomb. After a long fight, and many trips back to town, Sir killed Duriel, and proceeded to Act III.

Real Life has interrupted my D2 time. We had a major problem at work that resulted in the facility I am responsible for shutting down at a cost of £10,000 per hour in lost production. It took 72 hours until we got it back on-line and I haven't slept a lot, let alone been gaming.

I did manage a quick level up and a waypoint in Act 3:

So I am now at 15 points for Round 2. I will, hopefully, get more time at the weekend, but jrlafrance and Sir Lister of Smeg are dots in the distance. (Well done guys).

Does Round 2 end on Monday? (Edit: just re-read post 215 about 21:00 GMT, 12 September 2005. I told you I was tired  )

Well my contributions to this tourny took a further blow last night:

Player: Randy
Character: Gwar
Class: Bowler Lv18
Round One Points: 31
Round Two Points: 5

Total Points: 36

I have no excuses and no screenshots, only a sad tail of woe and poor play.

Gwar and I were disqualified from the last round due to and accidental visit to Fara in Act2, we were only lv17 and so I thought we had a pretty ok time of it with rule 2 seeing as how we'd not had the chance to hit lv18 and above and start really sinking points into Direwolf.

So we started off gamely into the desert after spending all 14 of our saved points in molten boulder, the thinking being that if this is going to be a tricky tourny it may as well bereally tricky. But tie me down and call me Susan if we had really underestimated how hard we'd made it for ourselves.

We started off at /players8 with our loyal rogue mercinary covering the rear only to have at least half our health stripped instantly by the first two packs of beasties we encounted; scarabs and spear cats.

Dropping down to /players1 and employing the services of one of Griez's men we ventured back out and made it down to the 3rd level of the Maggot Lair before falling to an infected wound.

In retrospect I think molten boulder might not have been a very wise choice of primary skill. I also think that if we manage to get out of Act2 Normal in the course of the tourny then that will be reward enough and a personal victory will have been won.

Good luck all.

Tried killing Andariel again, and this time it went without problem. Maybe I didn't properly spell the /players8 last time, I don't know. So far I also ventured into the sewers to find the waypoint and get a skillbook off Radament. To my surprise, I also got another Horadric Scroll from the chest next to him, maybe because I didn't talk to Cain beforehand? This Horadric Scroll is useless, or maybe Atma or Fara would do something with it, who's to know?

By also gaining one level, points for round 2 go up by 7 to 51 iicc, with total for all rounds at 123. Current hitpoints are 579.

I'm already wondering how to deal with all the greater mummies this time, Radament was done at players 1, and it might turn out to be the best setting for all the tomb areas in act II as well, but we'll see.

sorry about posting here, since I am not in the tourney, but the rules are facinating =D I like those.

but do you allow expin?

if you have runned act 1 efectivly, but your still not in the same clvl can you go back to act 1 to level you up?and I dont mean MF running just run and bash everything that moves, if you can those builds who are having bad luck would be able to level some up, and go with some other skill, and what did we learn about that, save some points =D

Hehe thanks. Yes I allow exp'ing, for a total of 3 reruns on each map. But the experience drops severely when you gain levels, so you don't really get much xp from act 1 areas if you're level 25

It's not Sint this time, it's Lister.

Anyway, King_Lear did just buy himself a very expensive new toy off Drognan.

A Necromancer's Bone Wand Of Chain Lightning.

That's 2 to all skills and 8% chance to cast level 5 chain lightning on attack, but the interesting other mods are +3 to Revive and +2 to Bone Spirit, also explaining the high price (~650000) with both being level 30 skills. I don't think I ever bought something this expensive off a vendor in Diablo II. The only setback (apart from the money) is that Clay Golem is lowered by 1, since his previous wand had +3 to Clay Golem, +1 Raise Skeleton, and +1 Skeleton Mastery.

At level 53, and all waypoints until Nightmarish Halls Of The Dead, his score is now 126, of which 54 in round 2. Current life is 448.

I fall into the same category... have not played any since round 2 started and will be out-of-town again this weekend. Hopefully, I can get back to a somewhat normal schedule next week.

My humblest appologies Sir Lister! I knew what I meant to type, but my fingers typed something else!

Great buy by the way!!

Round 2 has come to an end for Sir... :(

The journey has been very good, and fun. Sir made his way through the jungle with relative ease, until the Flayer Dungeon. He made his way through, and prepared to enter Lower Kurast with little life left .

After leveling up and continuing with his journey, Sir went into Kurast Bazaar. After contemplating whether to get Lam Esen's tomb or not, he decided the extra points would be helpful. Fortunately, he didn't get ambushed right away in the Ruined Temple, and was able to get the tomb. Unfortunately it cost Sir...cost him a lot of his life bubble. Battlemaid Serena being extra fast was a dangerous foe, and Durga (the brain dead bozo) wouldn't stand there and be a meat shield for him. His life was dangerously low.

Using the 5 points he got from Alkor, Sir ventured into Upper Kurast, weak and scared. Inside Upper Kurast were several Cantor's, and their minions. For some strange reason, the Faithful were more likely to ignore Durga, and come straight for Sir. This made things a little more difficult. Also, not in Sir's favor, the Cantor's seemed to ignore Durga also. Their lightning attack took even more from Sir's life force. Deciding that points were necessary, Sir went along one of the edges, and found the waypoint for Upper Kurast. Having gotten that, Sir decided to Save & Exit, and re-run Flayer Jungle again. Unfortunately with so little life left, Sir didn't last long. The Flayer Jungle had many Fetish dart blowers, and Durga wasn't doing his job properly.

Status: Dead
Level: 30 (29 points)
Waypoints: 22 (22 points)
Boss Kills: 2 (10 points)
Round 1 points: 7
Total points: 61
Round 2 points: 54

EDIT: I was playing on /p8, for the experience.

Good luck to those of you who are still alive!!

:( Sorry Jrla, but great update and great job on going that far with these rules

Seishinkan and Kugel (and others who will wait for round 3): no problemo.

Round three is slowly approaching and will bring some interesting things...

"What were those things?" Gwinni asked, breathlessly, as the last one fell.

Sigon winced, still tingling from the effects of the lightning attack. "Gloams".

They had reached the end of the Great Marsh and found the Waypoint, but Sigon knew the journey through the Flayer Jungle was going to be costly as the Gloams had hurt him.

They heard the approach of numerous Flayers. "These things must spend all of their time breeding when they're not fighting." Sigon said.

"Nice work, if you can get it" Gwinni replied.

His Battle Cry affected a few of them, but there were overwhelming numbers. He retreated and reached for his Bow.....
