Riddle

Riddle

Riddle:
there are 7 girls on a bus
Each girl has 7 backpacks
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats
For every big cat there are 7 little cats
Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

I can't figure it out. The answer is the password to something I got in my e-mail

Girls: 7x2 = 14
Big Cats: 7x7x4 = 196
Small Cats: 7x7x7x4 = 1372

So, the total should be: 1582

Of course, one could assume a bus driver as well, for +2 more legs.

======================================

EDIT:

Dammit...all of the above is wrong....

New try:

Girls: 7x2 = 14
Big Cats: 7x7x74 = 1372
Small Cats: 7x7x7x7x4 = 9604

Total Legs: 10,990

(again, potential for +2 legs from a bus driver)

14 for the girls
1372 for the big cats
9604 for the little cats

Total: 10990 legs.

7 girls
49 backpacks
49*7 big cats
(49*7)*7 small cats

7*2+4(49*7)+4(7(49*7)) = 10990

damn, KOW = smarter

7 girls x 2 legs = 14 girls legs
7 girls x 7 backpacks x 7 big cats x 4 legs = 1372 big cat legs
7 girls x 7 backpacks x 7 big cats x 7 little cats x 4 legs = 9604 little cat legs

14+1372+9604 = 10990 legs total, 10992 if it's a trick question and you are supposed to count the bus driver

Math is straightforward and follows certain rules, even if you're not good at it. Riddles, imo, are supposed to be "tricky", this particular one being a rather bad example, if the case is indeed to add the bus drivers legs.

The riddle never specifies if the bus is moving, if they need a teacher, if we need to count chair legs, etc. In this case I think the wording is supposed to trip people up by making it harder to figure out the numbers involved.

Tell that to the people above who got it wrong. :wink3:

No it doesn't specify whether any of the kittens were born with 3 legs either, which is why I find it a stupid "riddle" to begin with. :p

You got it wrong, you dork. It's supposed to be "how many legs are there on the bus". Answer, zero.
