Resists question

Hey there. My paladin is on course to having [email protected] but I'm looking to make him even tougher to kill (his ultimate destination is the ubers). :thumbsup:

With that in mind, he has 1 ring slot left which I can fill with either a dwarf star, raven frost or wisp projector. He also has 10 skill points available to put into either resist fire, cold or lightning. I'm therefore wondering which absorb ring and resist skill combination is likely to beef up his survival abilities the most.

What do you guys think?

If you don't have a source of CBF I would go for Ravens. Not only do you get the CBF but it has a healthy dex bonus, massive AR.
If not then probably Lightning absorb which is the wisp projector.
The last thing you want is being chilled, in mid-smite, then getting killed because you was too slow to leech back life via smite + lifetap.

Whats on the other ring?

If you insist on going for resist auras then you must think...which one is the most deadly? The answer is clear, its lightning - so thats what I would recommend if you're going to bump up a res.

With my current setup I'm stuck with the raven frost as you mention since I can't get the CBF from any other source. If I change a few things around though I could get it from a voice of reason weapon instead, and I could make up for the lost AR through the use of a metalgrid perhaps so it's not like the raven frost is an absolute must have item. I'm really looking to make the choice purely in terms of survivability and I figured one of those three absorb rings would be nice.

The other ring is a manald right now as well :))), purely because I don't have any other source of mana leech. If I switch out my guillaume's for a vamp gaze though I guess I would have even more options.

And I really do have the skill points spare, to the point where I could even possibly take two elements up to 95 but I think that's maybe overkill. :) I just wonder if having 95 lightning res will be enough to combat gloams and suchlike or whether getting the absorb from a wisp projector would be more essential.

I'm also not clear on how the 15 magic damage reduce on a dwarf star would be factored in to things.

not sure people like to overkill. My uber is wearing a smoke and a 1 socket heavens light :D

But anyway, the other ring, imo should be dual leech with nice res and the like. Dwarf star can be good too -there's a vid of a pally using fire absorb gear in UT staying alive with it :)

Part of the problem is that he's a conviction zealot so he'll be missing out on the great combo of fana+smite+life tap. I therefore need him to be able to take as many hits as possible to surive the inevitable occasions when he misses.
