    Reluctant Noob Question....

K, I've looked over the abbreviation list on the newcomer forum and can find no definition for EBOTZ. I've even looked through extensive item lists to try and match the acronym to the name. What is it? Someone please enlighten me.

ethereal Breath of the Dying Berserker Axe

the "e" preceding something like that usually denotes ethereality
the "BotD" is the acronym of the above.
the "Z" means Berserker Axe, or "BerZerker" when americanised. People often refer to is as simply Zerker.

Lol, u literally beat me by like thirty seconds. Realized that e must be ethereal and looked at runewords starting with B. Thanks for the info/confirmation tho.

P.S. Especially bout the zerker. It's funny, cause you can learn so much about godly items and runewords online, but certain info, such as what to put them in is harder to find/decipher.

Wait, I thought it was always Berserker. Even when Americanized.

    ???

Care to elaborate? I'm not sure what you mean... Z is short for Zerk, which is short for Zerker, which is short for Berzerker... Sounds rather "Americanized" to me on all accounts... We are so lazy, that the shorts cuts in our own language are too much effort...

It's spelled Berserker in english, with an S not a Z.

What I mean by "americanised" is:
    Realized instead of Realised
    Americanized instead of Americanised
    Berzerk instead of Berserk
i.e. using a Z in place of an S, or:

    Color instead of Colour
    Armor instead of Armour

...and so on and so forth. There's English English and then there's American English. It's just how it is.

What's strange is that the Barbarian skill Berserk is spelled with an S in-game, despite it being an american-made game (I think....) yet people still refer to it with a Z.

    /triviality

That's cause the english english is so much better than the american english.
And coz the letter Z is awesome. Serker would just sound silly.

Ugh. The Z is used to maintain phoenetics. When you pronounce Sorc, the abbreviation for Sorceress, does it sound like:
    Sorce
    Sork

For most "Americans" it would sound like Sorc, because that's..cooler?
Berserk cannot be shortened to Serk while maintaining the same sound, so they put in a Z so it would. Zerk maintains the sound.

If I use the shortened version, I use "zerk". If I type out the full word, I stick the "s" back in and it becomes "berserker", since that's how the word is supposed to be spelled.

I mash my keyboard and hope people understand what I'm trying to say. So far it's been working fkghdligjfosjls.
Actually about that Sorceress thing. Do you guys say it as Sork or Source?
I myself have been saying it as Sork for many years now, and anything different would be weird for me.

I think there was a poll on this a while back, and most people said 'sork'. I happen to think/say 'source'. 'Sork' just seems weird to me. Every other shortened character name sounds close to the original. Pally, zon, necro, barb are all shortened versions and retain the same 'sound', as the full word, but they're just missing the tail end of it.

Wasn't that long ago... I still say "sork" sounds stupid... Just my opinion...

But, as we were talking about, I forgot that it was spelled with an "S" rather than a "Z"... I mix and match a lot...

Also, I'm all for flogging the key board with hopes that something tangible will come out! ;aohnerg;oaineg'patfh'magn;lmaoiajeroiyhjnkblamf0qoj4y43 w00t!

Sork is lazy. If the full word is sorceress, why would an abbreviation take on a different consenent sound? Also, hope you all are pronouncing z "zed" and not the lazy *** "zee." Not doin it is like sayin your from missourah.
