Regarding number of sockets. Has anyone here taken advantage of... ...the fact that a cracked/crude/low quality item that you fix with the "item + chipped/flawed gem" recipe gets its item level set to 1? I´ll take an example. Let´s say you have a character who has managed to scrape together the runes necessary to make a 'Lionheart' armor and you want to make it in a Dusk Shroud (good defense, lightweight, reasonably low STR requirement). A normal non-magical Dusk Shroud would always get 4 sockets from Larzuk and would get these numbers of sockets with the socketing recipe: 1/6 chance of 1 socket 1/6 chance of 2 sockets 1/6 chance of 3 sockets 1/2 chance of 4 sockets BUT... ...since a Dusk Shroud with an ILVL of 1 can have a maximum of only 3 sockets, you would always get 3 sockets from Larzuk and the socketing recipe would yield: 1/6 chance of 1 socket 1/6 chance of 2 sockets 2/3 chance of 3 sockets and you could make your 'Lionheart' much easier. (Adding to the usefulness of this for an untwinked character is that the first item of each elite type you find is often a low quality one.) Visit: http://www.diabloii.net/items/sockets-list.shtml to get more ideas for suitable items. Even the biggest elite polearms and spears would get a cap at 3 sockets if they have ILVL=1. Good for some runewords, perhaps. 'Crescent Moon' comes to mind. EDIT: Ooh, 3-socketed Phase Blades! 'King´s Grace', 'Crescent Moon', etc.
