That's all Spy-Ware. Simply downloading Ad-Aware 6.0 and doing a quick search and quarantining/deleting all those files should clear up most of the ruckus. You cannot successfully reformat a computer without a Windows OS disc. You're going to need the computers back up disc or simply another copy of windows, no matter which one. I'd suggest trying the Spyware thing and uninstalling other programs from registry that you don't want, reformatting is a pain in the keester.

Create a boot disk, boot into DOS, write "format c:"(no quotation marks) press enter, press y, press enter. Wait for it to finish. Reinstall and you're done.
As for the OS.... XP if you want Windows, otherwise i recommend Linux SuSe, Linux Mandrake or Linux Redhat.
Oh, and the answer is 42.

Too buggy, don't like it. Big chance for mishap. Especially when dealing with an OS like Windows.

    is reformating the best choise?

Yes, do a fresh install of win XP Pro. It is very stable compare to win ME.

how do i get rid of a partition?

How big is the hard drive? Generally it is best to have a Hard drive copy of Win XP install files on one partition, and just format the primary with win ME. But if you must, then you will need a boot disk with CD-rom support, boot into DOS and run "fdisk". Once you're in fdisk, just remove all partitian and make the primary one the maximum size. Once you're done with fdisk, format your newly created partitian and start installing XP.

    how do i reformat a HD?(in promt i believe)

The command is "format c:" (or d: or e: depends which partitian you want)

what is the best OS to get? xp? 98?

    Most stable, XP Pro.

If you do get xp pro then have the comp boot from the disk so it goes into setup. There it will ask you to install...blah..blah...then you'll get to choosing the partition for the installation. You're current partition should already be there, if not then...yeah microwave it...anyway you can delete the partition there by pressing "delete". Afterwards you'll have to create a new one..remember if you're installing xp pro recreate a NTFS partition or your xp will start crashing like ME. Then it'll show up as a "raw partition", from there xp will format the partition and begin installation...and yeah you should be able to figure it out from there...its microsoft they have instructions for idiots...

and YES i have done this waaaaayyyyyyy too many times
