recommendations on barrel for tippmann custom 98 paintball gun

Hey guys, I got a tippmann 98 custom for x-mas and i play regularly now and i have decided to upgrade my gun a bit because i dont have the money right now to get an angel or something like that :) .So the first thing im going to do is buy a new barrel.I did some research and it seems that the flatline is my best bet.I play indoor mostly but soon i will be playing outside when it gets a little bit warmer. Can anyone think of a better barrel? Also what other upgrades do you guys recommend?

thx for any help

Yah, flatline decent for a few scenarios, but speed ball when you shoot around and turn the gun to the side a bit, the balls curve.
The name slips me at the moment, but Freak or Alien...is a fairly expensive set...yes set of barrels.

All the bore sizes are just a bit different so that when you go to the field or get your paint you can adjust barrel size according to the paint. Regardless of what people tell you all paintballs are not created equally. Temperatures,

Humidity, and such also play into the size.
I went from stock to these barrels and my accuracy soared from about 40% to almost 70% rough rough estimate there.

I recommend carving your own barrel out of a piece of driftwood, preferably cedar. You won't hit a damn thing, and the ball actually getting past the barrel before exploding would be a miracle, but what you lose on kills you more than make up for on style. :surprise:

Since we seem to have a few experts here on the topic...

I recently decided to start playing some outdoor paintball with some freinds. Ive looked around online, but I am completly clueless as to what I need to buy. I mean, I know I need a hopper, air tank, gun, barrel, mask....but I haev no clue whats good or whats not good.

Can someone send me links or reccomend me some good gear to start out with? Possibly give me a couple options.....poor mans gear and medium mans gear. I know those suckers can get REALLY expensive, and Im not interested in that kinda gear since Im new.

Thanks

I first played paintball when I was 8 years old. 7 years later, I'm starting to play again =) I have a model 98 from when they were first released (1998) and that thing handles perfectly. I played last weekend and I had maybe 1 ball burst on me from over 200 shots. I've been considering upgrading, but I'm not sure about that yet. But yeah, to you, mr. guy who posted above me, I'd reccomend a Tippman 98, simply because it has served me so well.

200 shots? Is that all you shot, thats like a game and a half for me.

Ah yes, the kill em all and let god sort em out approach to paintball. You need to be more selective, 2 kills all day, if done with only a single shot fired, wins again on style.

Ya know... I've been thinking about playing paintball for quite some time, but the main problems that I can see are this:

1. Paintball seems to be a "younger" sport, so at 34 I fear that I'd be considered an "old geezer" doing it.

2. Living in Yakima is like living in a cult-like isolation. Yeah... we have 100k people living here in the county... but it's a frickin' desert. :teeth:

3. I don't know of how I would even begin to find other people that would be interested in doing paintball... or even where to find paintball "playing fields" (if there even are any around here).

4. I haven't a clue how much the hobby costs (though I reckon I can afford about $350 or so to get started).

Lastly, I'm a sniper at heart... so the "one shot - one kill" mentality applies to me most of the time - and I have no clue whether or not that is even feasible with paintball.

Its feasible, but not the kind of range you would think, and typically not for the newer players (after 3 or 4 games you can do it well enough). And, its not like stay at one end of the field and get them at the other, its more of a multiplayer video game snipering. You move around as you shoot, so you'll be moving around alot and not just chilling out in one spot.

As for the 2 kills a day, I get an average of about 1.5 a game. Playing 8-10 games thats 12-15 a go.

And yah, expansion chamber 3 or 4 stage would be fine, or a Revolution hopper.

the next upgrade I would do would either be a expansion chamber, or a drop forward

Naw you should save that for later. Those are hella expensive. I would get a response trigger next and then learn the fully auto trick. It drains paint like a son uh a ***** but it sure is fun :D.

I would get a flatlinner if I were you. It increases your accuracy by a ton. Either that or go all out with a BOOMSTICK. It will cost you more than the gun itself but they are pretty ****in good.

Toader: if you want some websites for paintballing go to this and this

I'd recommed any spider guns(especially the e-99, a couple of my friends have those and they are good) or a tipmann 98 custom or the A-5

Both are pretty good sites and have good deals.

Lunar: Get the tipmann a-5, electronic trigger and a flatlinner and you will become an undefeatable force. Just stay in the back and pop everyone that comes in range. Usually you can pick them off without them even knowing where you are.

Thanks for the info Canadia... though I gotta say I like This setup quite a bit, but it's a little out of any price range that I'd want to pay. I'd be willing to go $300... but not over $500 on a hobby I'm not 100% sure I'd like.

Of course now... the trick is finding a group of people that get together and paintball. I'm sure they exist out there... but in Yakima... ha ha.
