Reaper of Souls PTR Live: Patch 2.2.0 First Reaction

[caption id="attachment_383014" align="alignright" width="350"][IMG] Patch 2.2.0 PTR community buff.[/caption]Blizzard hasn't announced it officially yet, but the PTR is now online and playable with Patch 2.2.0. There's even a special bonus to help us gear up into the new items.... the return of the +2000% legendary drop rate! Reaper of Souls PTR Live: Patch 2.2.0.

It's not a new season on the PTR, and if you had PTR characters from the last testing period for Patch 2.1.0, they are still there. (I was surprised to see the P550 softcore chars I built in S2 during the previous testing period.) Or you can copy over your current account from any realm, though be aware that accounts are only backed up once or twice a day, so the last few hours of play time might not be included.

The PTR servers are already showing delays on creating games, so if you're going to get in some testing, hop on quickly and try not to leave your game or you might wait a while to get back in. (This crowding on the limited space of the PTR made gearing into a RoRG really tough last time, since you couldn't create new games.)

All the new sets bonuses are enabled, though they're not all finished and functional yet, as you can see in the garbled text on the six piece Sunwuko bonus in the attached screenshot. Also note that sets now show which item slot each piece fits into, which is a handy QoL improvement.

    A few quick observations:

    • Progress globes now drop from Elites in normal Rifts, just like they always have in Greater Rifts. This is great, and makes the Rifts go faster (1% each orb adds up) plus it's helpful to show you a boss/champion pack has died. I often lose track of them on crowded screens.
    • Demon Hunter's Sentries have a buff icon showing how many are active. Unfortunately no second hand rotating to show how long until the oldest one expires, though.
    • Blood Shards display moved to the left side of the Inventory. A little easier to see it at a glance that way. Looks like there's space on the bar for more displays, but no point holding breath for auto-pickup materials going entirely virtual instead of wasting stash space.
    • Gifts of Ramaladni do indeed stack. Up to 100, though I'm a bit short of having enough to test that.
    • Existing item sets show the new 4/5/6 piece bonuses. All sets show the slot the item name fits into, and the newly-added items are dropping. You can see a shot of the new Natalya's Leggings below.
    • The three new sets were not dropping when the PTR first went live... at least I didn't find any of the new DH set, while finding dozens of pieces of all the other sets.
    • Cosmetics window is a new thing you can access via the main interface from chat, or from in-game hotkey, or from clicking the Wardrobe mirros you see standing in each town area.
    • Some minor changes to the social interface, with a new social button that opens up buttons to access your Friends List or Clan interface.

Servers are laggy and crashed already. I might give it a whirl tomorrow but I do like the idea of saving it for when I get bored of s2.

Logged in,tried it,logged out. It seems that the set bonus of the Sunwuko's 4 piece bonus is bugged and doesn't work, furthermore it says the 6piece buff is missing(which is not present in the live realm)

Progress Globes on normal rifts aren't ideal for Wizard Firebird builds since I am two screens away when they die :/ I wonder why they added those, I liked that as a unique thing for Greater Rifts.

I played a good deal on the PTR today and I must say I really like most of the things they have done.

Natalyas Set cuts through T6 like butter. I did not play my dh that much but I enjoyed it quite a bit. The aoe is awesome (especially with the lightning rune). Two things would interest me a great deal: 1. Do the Spenders cast by the sentrys (via M4) reduce the cooldown of Rain of Vengeance and 2. Do Elemental Arrow and Chakram still count as Spenders = (I will hopefully get to test those later).

The Monk is also pretty neat. The changes removed the Taeguk+Sweeping Wind Shenaningans while retaining a lot of the power of the 4 piece Inna's (Strong Defensive buffs, damage bonus and Spirit Regen). The & piece bonus looks pretty epic in action but does very little damage.

The Barbarian has been the most fun so far for me on the PTR. Perma WOTB is easily achievable given you encounter mobs often enough and your ancients dont just oneshot them. Also WotB works like Archon used to work, which means you can stack up the time (when I was testing Thassker and Theos I was up to 2 and a half minutes at some point.)
The Pants that grant all Runes of WotB seem to be a must because 4 of the 5 Runes are incredibly powerful and the options in that slot are just much worse.
The damage of tht Ancients is very decent and with a standard unity+rorg and IK+Aughilds combination you can pretty easily get into the mid to higher 30s (Greater Rift levels) without endangering yourself too much (HC players listen up :D).
From then on damage really becomes a problem, I tried to overcome it and found a pretty sweet solution. Rememberb Focus and Restraint, the incredibly rare and incredibly terribly ring set ? Turns out that if you can preserve your primary ressources they give an insane damage bonus now. With the new IK set keeping your resources up is pretty easy. So you basically get the full 150% bonus damage all the time. I got a pretty nice pair (both with cc, chd and a socket) and they beat unity+rorg by a landslide. After I got my hands on an soj I tested that+unity and the focus+restraint set is still much better.
I was able to clear a GRift 43 with about 5 minutes left and a 45 where I missed the time. By the way: the Rift Guardian Blighter had 74 billion health and it took me about 2:10 to kill him, so the IK set seems to offer some nice single target dps. Also you get to look at some pretty huge number on you character sheet. With all buffs active my barb had 3.7 Million sheet dps and 95 Million Toughness.

I can't wait to test out the new sets :D

I dunno. There's a new "Zuni Leg" item that is NOT part of the set, and it summons a Fetish Sycophant when you hit with a Mana spender. If you add that one to the new 6pc Zuni bonus (Enemies hit by your Mana spenders take 100% more damage from your pets for 4 seconds -- 5pc with RORG), you should be able to beat the old Jeram/Tasker combo easily. I think the devs were just afraid that the pet doc becomes too powerful if they'd make the 6th Zuni set item a belt or amulet, for example.

Do they really need to get rid of the health potions?

Along with the removal on legendary crafting mats I feel they're simplifying the game a little to much.

    Just my opinion.

"Do they really need to get rid of the health potions?""

Good move imo, they were annoying anyway once you have a Bottomless one (which happens quickly).

So T6 rifts finish even quicker now?? Not entirely sure that was needed, but okay.
