Reaching High Levels

Hey everyone,

Just a quick question.
Most of my characters reach level 86-87 and then i stop doing baal runs cause i find it boring. Is there a faster way to level or is just doing baal runs over and over still the fastest way?

Oh and this is on battlenet not single player

Thanks

Re: Reaching High Levels

Make a MF character. The aspect of finding good loot isw very motivating, at cleast for me, My MF characters typically reach L93 by the end of the ladder season and my Baal runner usually makes it to L94.

Thats two mistakes, have you been drinking? :)

And yeah, from some point in the game its probably only countless mf runs that slowly add some experience. Perhaps you could try to find a few motivated players and attempt level 99 together?

if you call "insane" ppl motivated sure but lv 99 requires a MAD amount of grining im not even close highest ever is 94.

Re: Reaching High Levels

what gain is there for going that far with a character?
most skill setups on builds are generally very good and survivable, fast runners etc, around the mid 80s so i dont see why you would go much further than 90 at most :/

Well, the loot has to come from somewhere. What do you do to get it?

Re: Reaching High Levels

I've started to solo level/MF in full(ish) baal runs with my light sorc, and the going isn't too bad, even at level 92. From 94 onwards you need to be ridiculously dedicated. I would never be able to spend that much time on a single char.

I would say that doing Baalruns is the fastest way, but you can do some small tricks too.

Have a Anni charm with Good EXP + Ondals Equipped.

Maybe even use Shrine(some people don´t like this though.)

And while in the baalgame: kill Shenk/Eldtrich or Pindle for a small XP boost too. (Instead of waiting in town.)

If you are more serious try to hook up with som Gosu player and kill diablo! then quickly move to throne and continue Grinding.

I have reached LVL 96 with my Ama 2 years ago i think, but going for 97 was INSANE, and the ladder season was to short ;/

If you wanna reach the Mighty LVL 99, Prepare to spend the time doing nothing but nonstop baalruns !!

There's no easy way of getting experience (other than saving normal and nightmare ancients quests, which instantly gives you 21 million). You suck it up and just do it.

You don't really wanna join botruns even though it allows for Ondal's Wisdom. There's a few good reasons for not joining botruns. I'll list some of them:

1) It's usually slow runs.
2) Often times there's few people in the runs.
3) The time spent between runs is often times very long, which makes for a HUGE loss of potential experience.
3½) The bots usually have an empty inventory in order to pickup items, which makes it a weak bot?
4) Channelruns most often includes a dude doing Chaos Sanctuary and a team doing Diablo when he's spawned (more experience for the dudes @ Throne).
5) Level 97+ dudes are allowed to search experience shrines and often times that results in them not showing up @ Throne before Diablo is dead (more experience for the dudes @ Throne).
6) You play with real dudes sitting behind their PC and you might get a friend or two.
7) Ondal's Wisdon is a crap item and you don't really wanna use crap items.

If you put your brain on autopilot it's actually not as hard as one would imagine. My listed record of baalruns for 1 day is 314 runs, which almost made me go 95 to 96. Had I started the day as 94 I would have gone 95 by the end of the day.

Havning an extra CD-Key won't do any harm either.

Re: Reaching High Levels

If you are really planning to get to level 99; the best way is to rush your character through classic, so the last few million points of experience can be collected from doing the ancients quest at high level (I think it is 2mln per ancient quest; so 2mln in normal and 2 mln in nightmare - which is a lot of runs for a level 98).

What a pity that leveling in UT was taken away... level 89 could be made in one hour (excuding the rush), and level 90 in 1,5-2hours.

Re: Reaching High Levels

My highest ever was level 93 on my MF necro and I did just stupid amounts of runs to get that.

93 or 94 is the max reasonable level you can ever really expect to get unless you're out of your mind in love with D2.

Re: Reaching High Levels

Baal runs is probably the fastest. If you have a cooperating team then you can unparty and get the killing blows on the bosses to get more XP. Some high levels do this anyway despite whether other are cooperating - it's referred to as topping.

My highest is lvl98 in 1.13. On previous ladder characters I've reached lvl96 and lvl97. It is a mind numbing grind going for lvl99 which is why almost all of the ones you see on the ladder are botted.

To give you an idea of the effort required, this is what I found for my own play style. Playing for 3-5 hours a day, at a rate of 5 minute baal runs (12 per hour) I obtained the following track record. There are many variations because you can't always find 8 player games, run times can be slow depending on the runner, you might have topper's taking your XP, you might miss joining a Baal run, you might get a ban, you might take a day off, you character might die (mostly from boredom) etc.

95->96: 8 days
96->97: 21 days
97->98: 45 days
98->99: expected to be 97 days but I gave up as soon as I hit lvl98.

As rule of thumb, once you reach the 90's it takes roughly as much time to get to the next level as it took to get from lvl01 to your current level. In other words once you reach lvl98, you are only half way there.
