Rarity list

There used to be this list in here with the rarity of Set and Unique elites listed from most rare to least, but it disapeared along with the res a month or two ago. Is there a copy of that one or another somewhere?

Any list of overall rarity requires some assumptions to be made. For example, Baal and Pindleskin have different rarity lists, as do Pit boss monsters, etc. So if everyone ran Baal only, the overall list would look more like his personal one, or if everyone ran all 3 equally it would be some sort of average between them.

That said, I made this list based on the time it would take to find each item assuming you were looking in the best possible place, and it will do at least as a rough guide to rarity.

That is largely deliberate, and is a tried and true large-scale public game principle.
If the best items are also the rarest, it creates an unstable economy which quickly gets out of control (very low supply, very high demand).

By having the best items be of medium rarity (rare enough that not everyone has them, but not so rare that you have to play 8 hours a day to ever find one) and having the rarest items be "interesting", so that only collectors want them, you create a better trading dynamic. Collectors can trade more common, useful items to players, in return for rare, useless items. Win-win.

The more successful trading card games follow this principle also (although it took M:tG a couple of iterations to get it right :) )

i can see that

unfortuantly in M:TG the prices where adjusted to demand and you got the 5$ uncommon's and the 10c rares

That's an interesting list, but:
What about runes?
Where would the high runes be in this chart?
Those would also depend on who is dropping them. It is not clear how to do a relative rank of runes to unique items.

Well the list is based on the chance to drop from the monster most likely to drop the item, so if you take the same standard for rune I guess you could add them to the list. I might be thinking wrong, but it seems logical to me

Up to a point. The main difference is that MF will affect everything on that list roughly equally (it has more of an effect on finding set items, so the more MF you have, the more set items drop down the list). Whereas there is nothing you can do to increase your chance of finding runes.

Would you want the odds of finding a rune compared to the odds of finding items at 0 MF, or 300 MF, or 800 MF?...

There are just a few too many variables when trying to compare equipment items with other items. That's why you also won't see a comparison with various jewels or charms of high value.
