Rare Circlets?

I keep seeing rare circlets in people builds. Are these gambled for?

I heard about gambling coronets and "upgrading". Is that it? How do you do that? I have seen cube recipes, but apparently too dumb to figure it out :scratchchin:

The majority are gambled but some are found or imbued. The reason is that the rare circlets have the chance of being just as great as some of the uniques. It´s quite difficult to get a decent rare with no wasted mod(ex: melee mods with FCR).
It´s not worth to upgrade circlets and alike because they have little def anyway.

When gambling coronets, the game does a similar mechanism as it does with other items. Each item you gamble has a small change to turn out exceptional or elite - You gamble a hat and it might change to a war hat.

Coronets do the same thing - although there aren't exceptional and elite versions. Coronets have a chance to change to tiara's or diadems. Note that circlets don't have this option, don't ask me why, they simply do.
So that how people 'upgrade' - better would be 'let upgrade by the game' - their gambled coronets to tiara's or diadems. You can't us a cube recipes.

P.S. I believe the reason why people gamble coronets and not circlets is because once upgraded, the items can get 3 sockets. So they can become 30 frw 3 sock helms, where circlets could only get 30 frw 2 sockets.

With a degree of magic find and lots of play theses items do drop occasionally but because of stat variability and there being 7 classes you seldom get the one you want for the character you are running.

Another way of getting rare headgear is to imbue. The higher level your character the better chance of getting high stats except for imbuing white diadems( found occasionally in level 85 areas) have which such a high magic level that even a level 8 imbue character can get top stats on them.So a white diadem can be imbued and rerolled using the 6 pskull recipe.

The chance of gambling rare headgear is ~1/10 I believe and the chance of a gambled coronet being a diadem is ~1/100 (from experience).Perhaps someone has more accurate odds here? This level of gambling requires a ferocious amount of goldfinding and specialist builds can be made for it.

Of course any rare headgear with 2 or 3 sockets, skills, resists and 30 frw is an extremely rare and highly desirable(tradeable) item indeed.

It's probably worth mentioning that rare diadems have interesting properties which make them suitable for imbues and rerolling. Usually, an item need quite a high ilvl (dropped from a high-level monster or gambled by a high-level character) to get the most desired affixes (+2 class skills, for example.) But because of an odd way that circlet-type items get a bonus, a diadem of any ilvl is capable of getting any affix. So many people find it worth picking up white diadems and then imbuing them with lvl 8 characters on the chance that they'll get something nice. It's also possible to reroll diadems with the 6 perfect skull recipe- usually that results in the ilvl dropping to yield a smaller, worse pool of affixes, but in the case of diadems the set of affixes (all of those that can occur on rares) stays the same.

Clvl required to imbue +2 class skill on circlet type headgear are:
Circlet - clvl 83
Coronet - clvl 78
Tiara - clvl 73
Diadem - clvl 8

At clvl 92, all gambled circlets are high enough ilvl to spawn +2 class skills
At clvl 87, the same goes for coronets.

and remind me again, to imbue, lvl 82 is enough for circlets right?

No, you can't, but helvete was talking about imbuing BTW, the only reason to be L8 for imbuing diadems is that you cannot solve the imbue quest any earlier. Diadems can have any affix at any level.

Imbuing produces a rare item with ilvl=charlevel+4. You are confusing that with shopping where it's ilvl=charlvl+5. For gambling it's random, from charlvl-5 to charlvl+4.

Imbuing a circlet at clvl 82 will *not* result in +2 class skills - clvl 83+ there's a chance, doesn't get any better with higher clvl.
