rant: your definition of crud

I've always thought of krud or crud as some black sticky tarish goo that's gritty. Like something you might find scrapped off some industrialists boot onto the back of some rock that no one want to look at. Sometimes I make a folder simply called krud for the stuff people I know give me that I really can't bring myself to tell them not to bother. So it's like 'damn, more krud - just what I needed.' Maybe that stuff should be called eKrud or something. Anyhow, anyone else become familiar with this odd word. I've really no idea where I got it from.

Interestingly this is what the free dictionary thinks of crud:

crud Pronunciation (krd)
n.
1. Slang
a. A coating or an incrustation of filth or refuse.
b. Something loathsome, despicable, or worthless.
c. One who is contemptible or disgusting.
2. A disease or ailment, imaginary or real, especially one affecting the skin.
3. Sports Heavy, sticky snow that is unsuitable for skiing.

Wiki compares it to the four main functions of a database: create-read-update-delete. There is no entry for krud though. Your thoughts?

well first off,

it be interesting (and would answer your question) to know it's origin like people use to do well on the national spelling bee's or that hot some european? word/language girl with the uber sexy vuice...forget her body...this is the one time i will say that, her vuice is sooo sexxxxxy...forgot her name...that bill o' reilly has on time to time to tell us about the origin of words.

woot woot...just remembered her name!!! marianna (or something like it) (no idea how to spell it though, obviously)

i do not know language or word origin at all.

if crud has some connection to crude as in crude oil...than crud would actually mean the same as (crude) oil. but i have no idea if crud comes from crude (oil) or some totally different origin. if crud goes a long ways back in history, obviously it can't originate from crude (oil) as humanity didn't care about it back than, at least not like we do in today's industrialized world.

i always thought crud was jsut another word for feces/excretement/poop. at least that was/is my understanding of the word. of course it has many different uses depending how it's used in a phrase as well as it's actual definition, whatever that actually is.

I can't say I've ever seen krud used, but the first thing I think of when referring to crud is a lesser version of option b, as in "That new game will be crud," often used in the same context as crap (which seems to fit 1, a, and sometimes b, at least).

crud is an older generation word at least where i live. it's not used any more by today's generation. when i was little my parents, grandparents, and teachers would use crud a lot. but none of my peers or myself ever use it.

it seems other places spell it krud with the k

where in the U.S. we spell it crud with the c

According to my Oxford English Dictionary that is part of my desk it is:
crud: [informal] 1. an unpleasantly dirty or messy substance. 2. nonsense.
derativatives: cruddy [adj.]
origin: from curd

It doesn't tell anything about krud, but it does tell you that a Kurd is someone from Kurdistan.

For me, crud is the composite of dirt, dust and miscellania that gathers in rarely visited crevices such as at the bottom back of a non bespoke refrigerator or washing machine. As an adjactive, just an even tamer version of 'crap' in the generic sense.
