Rank the top 5 runeword weapons for a melee build (PvM only)

Hi all


I was wondering if anybody feel like ranking the top 5 runeword weapons (Ladder) for a paladin (melee builds only) to give me a better understanding of what i should wish/hope/farm for. This is for PvM and no specific builds..not taking MF'ing and Ubers into account. Rarity shouldn't be taken into account either.

I'm making a paladin and would appreciate some feedback on this. I wil be wearing a shield and a 1handed weapon so the runewords would be for 1handed only

First, there are a lot of variations on "melee" for a Paladin. Assuming a zeal/fanat:

1. Grief


2-5 (Anything else would need a build tailored to it to surpass grief)-
Beast, Last Wish, eBotD, Doom, Rift

Really depends on build though, check the guides for some tailored equipment lists.

I like Breath of the dying in eth berserker axe. Grief is better average damage but ebotdz don't need repair and has duel leech with 30 all stats which is a better choice for pvm in my opinion.

Grief in a phase blade also doesn't need repair.

1. Grief
2. Breath of the dying
3. Last wish (in some situations and for some builds better than the above)
4. Death
5. Oath

Basically, high damage, ias, crushing blow and ability to be etheral (indestructible/self-repair) makes a good weapon

Here are my choices and few reasons why plus what i think you should socket them into

Grief pb-Great average damage, speed, ITD no need to repair-best smite weapon ever IMO
Botd za-Better max damage than a grief lower average though,good speed, great stats, awesome ll and no need to be repaired
Lw pb- aura, speed is good, the cb insane and those lovely procs
Death za-Damage cb ds 20% ar bonus
Rift in a scepter with +to conviction on it- procs, magic/fire damage, 20% ar bonus
(Every melee pally who can afford rift in a scepter with +to conviction should get one to handle Pi's, the low damage on it can also help you survive a few zeals with IM on too)

1. Grief - no question
2. BotD - pretty allround
3. Death - like using this in combination with 1 and 2 on barbs
4./5. LW or Beast - both a bit less standard, but good in lots of situations

Rift - a bit to specialist for my taste
Oath - if price would be a consideration this would be 1.

I had to say rift for the amount of times its saved my but and he did say melee builds and dealing with Pi's is a big part of melee but i guess you right

3.Botd
4.Last Wish
5.Doom

I have a zealot with Grief and it is a fantastic weapon, but it's usually a big problem with iron maiden. I really would like to try Last wish phase blade.

Forgot to mention that appart from runewords, ethereal stormlash is a really good and fun to play with weapon.
