Rabies IAS Question

I realize that this question will probably prove to be among one of the dumbest ever asked, but 'ere goes:

Why does IAS matter for a Rabies build? Rabies is not a skill that benefits from multiple rapid hits... is it? I've always thought it was a one-hit skill: that is, infect monster/player and then select different attack skill/run away.

I keep seeing this focus on IAS for Rabies Druids and am left baffled. Please explain... gently.

It's not a one hit kill. Certainly when opponent has psn lenght reduce items on etc.

That and IIRC Rabies is interruptible, so you can get canceled out of animation if you block during a bite. So IAS does play an important role.
