Quick socketing question: battle staff in normal

Yeah, found one with +3ES, and I'm figuring it only gets three. Confirm?

    Are you sure?

I was under the impression that, regardless of the ILvl, any item dropped in normal could have, at most, three sockets as a difficulty restriction. Was this altered in .11?

You're thinking of items that naturally drop with sockets. Items that are already socketed when they spawn are indeed capped at a max of 3 sockets on normal (and 4 sockets on NM), but if you use the socket quest, or the socket recipe on an item found on normal difficulty, then it's only restricted by the item's ilvl.

Well, I'll be damned, I'll have to remember that. I suppose that means it's the socketing roll that's limited by difficulty, but when an item fails the roll completely it potential is merely governed by the ILvl since there's no 'found in such-and-such difficulty' tag. I'm glad I hung onto this then, might get me some money. Thanks.
