    Quick Question:

What's the max number of sockets on an ilvl 1 Ogre Axe? I just found a cracked one and thought that maybe I could get three sockets on it if I use the cube to make it normal and then use the cube to add sockets to it. Might be faster than waiting for a 3 OS elite polearm to drop regularly.

    Thanks!

Maybe this is a completely stupid question....but how can an Ogre Axe be ilvl 1??? I thought ilvl was derrived from monster lvl..Is it because it's cracked...

Have some patience, 3 socket elite polearms aren't that rare:).

When you up a lower quality item using the cube recipe , the ilvl is set to 1.

Yes thanks for the info Sleepless...my guess is that the Ogre Axe will only get 1 socket, sounds most logical.

That should indeed hand you a 3-socket Ogre Axe.

Polearms are 3/4/6 - they get 3 sockets max until level 25, then 4 until 40.

I know it can have more than one but I don't know if the max is two or three. I remember seeing a chart somewhere once that broke it down for every item type (perhaps it was three charts, one for normal, exceptional and elite). It went something along the lines of ilvl 1-25 can have 1-b sockets, 25-40 can have 1-c and 40+ can have 1-c where a, b and c are different for each base item. I haven't been able to find it again and I don't know if the ilvl ranges have changed over the different patches. Whoever knows what chart I'm talking about, I (and probably many others) would appreciate a link so I can bookmark it.

    From the Arreat Summit: http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/cube.shtml

1 Ral Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Amethyst + Normal Weapon = Socketed Weapon of same type
The number of sockets created will vary. The item must be normal and unsocketed. Low-quality items and superior items do not work. The item gets 1-6 sockets, randomly. However, the number of sockets is then restricted by the maximum number of sockets that base item with that ilvl can have. For example, if you have an item that can only have 2 sockets, there's a 5/6 chance of getting 2 sockets and a 1/6 chance of getting 1 socket.

1 Ral Rune + 1 Thul Rune + 1 Perfect Sapphire + Normal Helm = Socketed Helm of same type

1 Tal Rune + 1 Amn Rune + 1 Perfect Ruby + Normal Shield = Socketed Shield of same type

Speaking of noobage - my plan was to make a CM for my merc, and then put Delerium on him for a helm. Only problem with this setup is that neither of those has any life leech. Since I don't have any armors with LL (cause I'm untwinked HC right now), I can't use this setup.

So my next quick question is which one is better on a merc? Delrium or CM?

    Thanks!

CMoon. You can easily get a Tal's mask to LL, and with a Duriel's Shell (CBF pwns), he'll be nearly unkillable.

Actually, if he's using both CM and Delerium, he might not need as much LL since there won't be many monsters whacking him.

You can also get LL off the armour, just craft a blood armour or look for one of the uniques.

Otherwise, wear the helm yourself :)

The char is a Fanatic throwadin. :D Maybe I'll call him a Whomadin if he makes it to Guardian. He's got a HF merc. I'd prefer to put both the CM and Delerium on the merc because he's the one up front tanking while I chill in the background tossing axes, and with Fanatascism on the merc he attacks really quickly.

I'd totally forgotten about crafting armors... kinda silly since right now half of my char's gear is crafted. I think that that will be the plan then, CM, Delerium, and a crafted armor.

Also, I'd love to equip him with a Tal's mask and Duriels, but I don't have either of those. I'm a bit short on uniques/sets since this guy kinda sucks against bosses. I'm hoping the CM will help with that. Plus I've never used Delerium and this particular char needs some serious crowd control help.
