    Quick Question on skills allocation

I am reaching a point where the skill points to be added are few and far in between, so have to add them where they will do the most good.

Let me use as an example, a sorc who is at level 70 and uses frozen orb as the main weapon. Would it be better to place a skill point earned in the skill "frozen orb" or in the skill "cold mastery". Which will give the best return?

As always, everyone's replies are appreciated.

Well you technically should be maxing both when your character is complete, but as for your current situation, I can't really be of too much help. I'd probably say mastery since the -% to enemy cold resistance can be pretty helpful.

I would tend to agree with the above comment.

Just to add a bit more reasoning:
It won't matter how much "extra damage" you're doing if a monster happens to be cold immune, but if you can use your cold mastery to bring its resistance down far enough to break that immunity, it makes all the difference in the world.

once your cold mastery is around 8-10 (let your +skill gear take care of the rest)
max your orb then ice bolt (cenergy: +2% Cold Damage Per Level)

minimum monster res is -100 iirc

    That's helpful. Thanks to both.

Cold mastery doesn't influence breaking immunity at all. You can break cold immunity only with Conviction and/or Lower Resist and if you do, then the cold mastery takes effect and lower the resistance down. Anyways most hell monsters with cold immunity are so much immune, that breaking their immunity is impossible. (Unlike lightning immune monsters, where you can break almost most of them)
I would argue about having only -100% CM, because a lot of monsters have 50 or 75 default cold resistance.
