Questions about mf lightning sorc

I read a guide about it somewhere and it said I need enough dex to max out chance to block and lots of energy. People on bnet said I don't need to spend a point on either of them. Who's right? If the guide's right, how much energy w/o gears do I need?(assuming I have best gears for mf lightning sorc) And why do I have to use a monarch for Spirit when there are better shields w/ less str required?

Only a handful of shields can carry 4 sockets to make a Spirit and among that the Monarch have the lowest STR requirement.

If you are making a Monarch Spirit then you don't need to invest for max block rate (too much DEX required). So the Bnet folks are right.

Now about NRG, is up to your play style. With full MF gear on, you'll suffer from low mana regeneration and so-so mana capacity which aren't ideal when you are spamming lightning skills like a madman. A simple and cheap fix is simply to gulp down blue pots or wear some +mana or mana regeneration items.

However if you dislike drinking pots (some players do), then make Insight runeword. Your mana problems will be over :)

Ok, so what's the recommended number of points to spend on energy?

And crap, I didn't know Insight and Infinity are only for ladder characters until now! :( Is there any way to get them in non-ladder? Is lightning sorc basically useless w/o Infinity?

When ladder resets, all items from ladder chars become NL so u can easily trade for them, at a heavy price. As for MF vs speed, I personally like speed. I cant give u exact yields, as mf is based on luck.

That is one hella expensive gear set, but u get decent mf(~200%) and some wicked killing speed.

You don't have to go only for the maximum possible MF, but instead go for the maximum possible MF that you can have while being able to survive and kill at a decent rate. MF really comes after survival and killing speed.

I think anywhere from 300-400% MF is realistic and highly achievable.

In long run, not spending points in NRG is recommended. Once you get all your end gear, the points in NRG isn't going to be useful. However if you are starting from scratch and can't wait for the blue ball to fill up or find yourself drowning yourself in blue pots, then invest some points in it to make your life easier. Maybe around get it to around 50-70.

And 3 Light GCs.

I can do pretty fast Meph runs with this set-up atm. My runs only take a couple mins depending how fast I find lvl 3.

This is what I use; I try to keep it balanced, it is probably not best equipment overall but I have over 500mf, do a 21k max lightning and all res 67+ on avg.

5 light sks and a sorc torch too.

It's certainly not the most mf you can get nor is it the most dmg but it's all very decent and you'll be able to do serious dmg, find good stuff and not to get killed by bosses.
