Questions about meph mfing

I mf a lot off meph and i dont get as great as drops n e more... so i was wondering if n e one knew what the perfect amount of mf or mfing gear is for my sorc... right now i currently am using...

6 isted crystal sword
4 isted monarch
x33 7%smfc's
perf travs
perf chancies
perf nagel
39mf ring
30 mf tiara with 3socs... 102 mf total
perf tal plate (ptopazed)
tal ammy
perf tal belt
perf gheeds

my total mf is 990 :yep: which im pretty damn sure thats the highest mf on version 1.10 right now lol...

please post why you think im not getting as good of drops anymore... and what you think the perfect gear and mf is for hell meph mfing!! thx all...

Imo, thats too much mf...
Since chance to find uniques have dimishing returns, with that much mf your chance to find magical and rare items are greater than your chance to find uniques.
Thats why they dont appear so often. Most ppl do fine with 300-500 mf.
That much mf may seem cool to you and on paper but in game it doesnt do much for uniques.

Because you are expecting too much, and you've probably reduced your killing speed by quite a bit.

Let's look at some numbers:
990% mf -> 199% better chance for unique
990% mf -> 332% better chance for set

500% mf -> 166% better chance for unique
500% mf -> 250% better chance for set

300% mf -> 136% better chance for unique
300% mf -> 187% better chance for set

See how little difference it makes? It's called diminishing returns.

Killing speed doesn't have diminishing returns. This means that IF reducing your mf from 990 to 500, which will reduce your effective mf for uniques by only 33%, increases your killing speed by more than 33%, then 500 mf would be better.

Beyond that, it's all random. In particular, the "you have too much mf, so your "magic find" kills your "unique find"" that people tend to give is total crap, since the game makes separate rolls for each quality, starting with uniques.

You can get the mf for sure... but the 3 soc... I thought only mechanics applied to circlet type helms..

The Mechanics prefix is all that will spawn on a circlet class item. That gives 1 or 2 sockets.

You can get up to 35 magic find on a magic circlet.

The best you could do would be 2 sockets with 35% magic find built in.

Mechanics Tiara of Luck.

You can have the prefix Artisans spawn on a corona/grand crown/crown thus getting 3 sockets, however this item can not spawn any suffix with magic find.

As Myrakh-2 said, more MF will always give a better chance of getting uniques, as an item has to fail the roll to be unique before it has a chance of rolling for set, rare etc. So if you're seeing less uniques than you used to, you just have crap luck. Keep going though and it should average out.

But yeah, beyond 500mf, killing speed is far more important. In fact I'd say beyond 300mf you should look for equipment to help you survive longer or kill faster, getting mf only if it's on an item with other useful mods (wartravs, oculus, harlequin's crest, tal armour etc)

Artisan's prefix can spawn on Tiaras and Diadems. So a perfect Artisan's Tiara/Diadem of Luck socketed with 3xIst would yield 110% mf.
