Question regarding 3% and 5% Fast Run/Walk Small Charms

Hi, this question concerns [NL] only.
Is there really any difference between a 5% FRW SC (1.09) and a 3% FRW SC (1.10+). I mean : is it just a display issue, or does a 5% FRW SC really give a 5% FRW boost ?
If it's the case, am I right to assume the 5% FRW SC's are worth much more than the 3% ones, since they can't spawn anymore :scratch: ?

Thanks,
- Frosty

I don't know. I never kept FRW small charm unless they had good second mode. You can easily get +50% FRW from equipment.

It is not a display issue. in 1.09, there was a minimum cap of 5% for FRW items. Anything below that (3% charms) was automatically raised upon spawning.

As to worth...it doesn't seem like most people care about FRW charms. I still collect 5%'s whenever I can, but I normally only use them if they have second mods (like on my Hammerdin who has 8 5% frw charms with 10-17 mana and various resists)

Well if you use a char who runs instead of tele, then 5% really is better than 3%. This is due to that your "actual run" is calculated by taking any r/w you get from charms/items and dividing it by two. So for example if you need 20% "actual run" from charms, then you would need to use 8 5% r/w sc's (8 x 5 = 40, 40 / 2 = 20), OR 13(.3333etc.) 3% r/w sc's to get the actual amount of speed. So if you use the 5% charms you get to use 5 more charms for other use (in the case of life, a 100 life boost max, and even this without bo or +x% max life), which actually gives advantage.

That doesn't apply for skills giving r/w. For example Increased Speed / Vigor give their run% in actual run. So actually if these skills give 35% it would be similar to 70% from items/charms.

And yes 5%s are more worth.

Thanks for the replies. Here are the FRW SC's that I've got on my [NL] mules. I was wondering which ones are "keepable", and which ones I can throw away :p... None of them seem particularly good (no prismatic resistances, no big elemental damage, etc...), except maybe the 10%/11% res ones ? Any idea upon this :scratch: ?

Code:
Small Charm 3% FRW (x20)
Small Charm 3% FRW 10 Mana
Small Charm 3% FRW 10% Res Cold (x2)
Small Charm 3% FRW 10% Res Lightning
Small Charm 3% FRW 12 Mana
Small Charm 3% FRW 3 Mana
Small Charm 3% FRW 4 Def
Small Charm 3% FRW 5% Res Cold
Small Charm 3% FRW 50 Poison Damage During 4 Seconds
Small Charm 3% FRW 6% Res Cold (x2)
Small Charm 3% FRW 7 Mana
Small Charm 3% FRW 8% Res Fire

Small Charm 5% FRW (x31)
Small Charm 5% FRW 10% Res Fire
Small Charm 5% FRW 3% Res Fire
Small Charm 5% FRW 3% Res Fire
Small Charm 5% FRW 4-12 Fire Damage
Small Charm 5% FRW 6 Def
Small Charm 5% FRW 6% Res Lightning
Small Charm 5% FRW 6% Res Poison
Small Charm 5% FRW 7 Mana
Small Charm 5% FRW 8 Def
Small Charm 5% FRW 8% Res Poison

Where did you get this information? I believe it is dead wrong. According to Tommi:

EffectiveWalkSpeed = BaseWalkSpeed * (1 + Skill_FRW / 100 + [Item_FRW * 150 / (Item_FRW + 150)] / 100 + Armor_Speed / 100)

EffectiveRunSpeed = BaseRunSpeed + EffectiveWalkSpeed

BaseWalkSpeed = 4 yds/sec
BaseRunSpeed = 6 yds/sec

So item/charm frw isn't half of skill frw, it's on a diminishing returns formula:
(Item_FRW * 150) / (Item_FRW + 150)

See here for more information and tables of values.

Well probably your right then. :( Just heard that from some friends who've played since the stone age so I "assumed" they were right.

I could have swore long ago the 5%frw charms wasn't quite 5%, actual was a bit less than 5%? Anyone else confirm or am I a looney?

That rumor was about FHR SCs, which according to the rumor only gave 4% instead of 5%. False btw.
