Question on Stormcryer's Tri-Elementalist

Hi,

My build goes as this at lvl 73 act 1 hell.

20 Blizzard
20 Meteo
1 warmth
1 static
1 teleport

+ all pre-reqs

23 unused skill points

My gear gives me +10 to all skills, end gear will gives +13-15

1) What is the best for this build Chain lightning or lightning ? Stormcryer use CL for some raison (mass killer) but as i can see ligthning is stronger.

2) I will put some point (later) in meteo synergy and CL or lightning synergy, but what about blizzard ? My gear gives a CM lvl 14 (85%) - 16 (95%). Stormcryer put some point in CM and some point in Glacial spike. But I think with my gear i can afford to put all those point in Glacial spike.

Thanks !

I'd suggest using Chain Lightning and a Baezil's Vortex on your weapon switch. That will give you the Nova Synergy.

If that's not your bag, I'd just suggest using Nova since you can just max it and not worry about the synergies.

A good different route would be:
20 Charged Bolt
20 Lightning Mastery

For Chain Lightning:
15 Lightning
20 Chain Lightning
5 Lightning Mastery

20 Blizzard with 1 in CM will do just fine.
Also leave FM at 1 and put any other points that might be left into Meteor synergy. +skills take care of FM and CM.

Lightning tree really needs those 40 points to be effective, no matter which of the Lightning spells you max.

Also replacing your main weapon with Baezils Vortext will make your other 2 trees suffer, so it sadly not really and option at all!

Remember that as an Archmage you are usualy on your own and not really going about your business in 8p games alone but more like 1-4p games and there you will do just fine with your Merc as company.

Oh ! Learning from my mistake

Yes, lightning tree really need more points than fire or ice to be effective. Now its just too weak to be any good :(

You must be kidding me. Its not too weak. I dont know what your expectations are, but you can play very well through Hell with this in 1-4p games. Archmages are simply no 8p game masskillers. They can kill everything on their own, so yes they can go completly Solo.

This build with about +12 skills or more does just fine. Why the hell else do you think that there are people out their playing Archmages at all. For myself i have 2-3 builds lying around at lvl85-90.

Humm ....

I was talking about the chain lightning skill. I have only 20 points in it right now, which make it weak compared to blizz or meteo.

Blizz and Meteo are doing nice job with only 20 hard skill points. Chain lightning is not doing a nice job with only 20 hard skill points. It can kill, but its much slower than blizz or meteo.

That what I meant.

I am not expecting to kill everything in a blink of an eye with this build but at least to kill.

My first idea was to make to build like this :

20 blizz
10 Glacial spike
1CM
20 meteo
10 Fire ball
1 FM
20 chain lit
10 Lightning
1 LM

That was a mistake. Chain lightning will be too weak.

But you said i should put more point in lighting tree :

20 blizz
5 Glacial spike
1CM
20 meteo
5 Fire ball
1 FM
20 chain lit
20 Lightning
1 LM

I hope it clarify what i said. I did not mean that tri-elements will just no work.

I am sorry about the confusion.

Are You JOKING??

I find lightning skill tree best for general hell pvm, not just for andy or meph or such, from experience. (have a lightning / meteorb / blizz sorc). :cheesy:

Oh didn't see your bottom post... Ya I agree that CL is weak as hell... but it still effective no?
