Question about socket recipe and socket quest

So I have collected a couple of white Archon Plates from TC87 area
and try to see if I can get 3 socket on them. You can see the
    quote from arreat summit above.

Archon Plate can get up to 4 sockets, so if I use the recipe
what are my chances to get 1, 2, 3 or 4 sockets?

I was told that if I use the add socket quest they will all
    have 4 sockets...

    Anyone knows?

    Thanks!

the archon will have no restrictions.. it can get 1,2,3 or 4

its an even distribution with the recipe:
    u will have a 1/4 chance for 4 socketes.

if u give it to larzuk he will put 4, gaurenteed.

    Larzuk cheats me

I have never ever gotten more than 1 socket in any of the stuff I give to Larzuk. Is this a quest thing or just the items I happen to give to him. I mean every single time I used this quest to socket stuff I've only gotten 1 socket.

Oh yeah I only give him uniques and sets to socket. Would that matter?

Also how come I can get some stuff to socket and not others? For example, I was able to socket my Trang Oul helm and armor, but I cant socket other set stuff?

It's not an even distribution, the socket recipes add between 1 and 6 sockets to an item. It they add more than the socket cap it's capped to the maximum.

The odds for 1, 2 or 3 sockets are 1 in 6, and for 4 sockets the odds are 1 in 2.

Thanks RTB. Your explanation is very clear. They should rephrase it in the arreat summit.

I'll try my luck, for now I only have two archon plates, maybe I'll get it in the first try!

I agree with RTB. It seems I get 4 sox in every armor I try to get 3 sox in it(GRRRRRRR!).

    How about sets?

Ah ok, that clears things up about the uniques.

How about sets? Why only some set items can get sockets, while others can not? This is in set items with no sockets in them, but would make sense to have (like armor and shields)...
