question about realm down

i was wondering what does it mean when it says realm down where the character menu is supposed to be? i just got out of a game when it took me back and now i cant log in anymore. is this permanent or temporary and if so how long does it take for it to go away? thanks

Realm down is temporary, but the time it takes until it'll let you back in varies. Sometimes, it's a few minutes, sometimes a few hours.

What causes a realm down isn't 100% certain, but it's commonly believe to be a result from switching characters too fast, or quitting/joining games too fast or abnormally. There may be other reasons.

Generally, if you slow down and take it easy abit on bnet, chances are you won't experience a realm down (I haven't experienced one in ages).

BNet has a bot protection system --- essentially, if a human player logs in too often in a short timespan he'll get realm down, thus protecting the bots from too much human interference.

The duration varies and appears to be random.

If you really need to get on you can change your IP address --- but you WILL get realm-downed again after the first login (seems that the realm down is linked to both CD key and IP address --- the game lets you in if the address doesn't match, but then it will have your new address and lock you out the next time).

For me, a person with Dial-up (getting DSL in a week), realm down happens since sometimes it takes a REALLY LONG time to join a game and worse, lags.
When it realm down, I disconnect and connect again, it always work, and I can get back on.
Don't know if it will help.
