question about hellfire torch..

hey.

I never had a torch myself, and I need to know something...

The torches have 25% Chance To Cast level 10 Firestorm* On Striking...

Does this make them really bad for PVP?
I Know +3 skill, +20 stats and +20 resists is incredible for a large charm...
But won't casting a spell 25% of the time REALLY slow a melee char, at the point where it's not even good to use it?

In short : Is the casting delay of firestorm really bad on torches for PVP?

Re: question about hellfire torch..

CTC effects usually happen on their own, without wasting the time of the wearer. AFAIK the firestorm from a torch will not cause a delay.

However, sometimes my fana-zeal paladin seems to make a pause when FoH from T-God's is triggered, but that's not a "ctc on an attack" effect, but a "ctc when being hit" one. Whatever, zeal is uninterruptible, so I guess it can only delay his actions when it's happening between two zeals which makes that occurrence rather rare, as it's just 5% anyway.

Re: question about hellfire torch..

Yeah, I guess 5%, and "when being hit" is not all that bad, but 25% on attack, I'm afraid it'll disrupt any offensive...

What made me think about it is that I use Goldstrike Arch with my bowazon, and the
"5% Chance To Cast Level 7 Fist Of Heavens On Striking" is kinda annoying...

If it's that bad in PVM, I figure it must be horrible in PVP... and now I'm only talking about 5% now, 25% = it'll trigger nearly once per second ( assuming my endgame suit, faith and ias gear ).

I guess I should just try to buy/find one to test it, heh. Because if the delay is what I expect ( 5 x worse than my 5% FoH bow ), I don't even think it's worth +3 skill, stats and resists... Slow dueler = dead dueler, most of the time.

Re: question about hellfire torch..

i think it has more to do with the delay time on those skill. foh from tgod has a timer which prevents you from using another skill after foh was casted. in the runeword phenix the ctc firestorm behaves like that too but on hellfire torch the firestorm is diablos spell and i dont think there is a delay timer on itt..

Re: question about hellfire torch..

Another question i would like to ask about the hellfire torch though is. If you are having a "when struck" proc (dunno if it has to be melee or physical, etc,...) and you for example get hit or block an opponents attack plus the opponents Firestorm casts, then does that count as getting struck twice? Meaning, do the chances of the "when struck" proc double?

I hope my question is not too confusing.

As sweetalmonds said; The firestorm is not the Druids, but diablos funky mega-hose (as you probably knew) and this has no casting delay.
The only downside is that melee/missile weapon characters with torches tend to drop out of online games faster.
Using a Phoenix shield on the other hand, the "40% Chance To Cast Level 22 Firestorm (the Druid skill) On Striking" is a pain in the **** on fast melee characters.

Doppel: Having two "15% ctc when hit" does not equal 30% im afraid. It simply does the 15% calculation again if the first one doesn't proc.

(Please correct me if Im wrong on this one)
