Question about -cold res

I have been told that cold mastery is capped at -150% is this true? And if it is true does facets help when your cm is at -150%?
Thanks for any inputs

Ello Svin :howdy:

You can put as many points into CM and the skill itself is not capped! +skills is the only limit! BUT monster resistances are capped at -100% fire/lightning/cold resistance, so you cannot lower them below -100%

To get DClone there you would need -195% cold resistance from CM, for Mephi only -175% (which is slvl32 CM)

Hi meli :D

Lets see if i have gotten this right... -resist is capped at -100% except bosses like you mentioned, so basically i could just place enough skill points in cm as i need to get -100 together with facets, and that way save alot of skillpoints, instead of just maxing it like crazy? :)

noooooooooooooooooooooo :D

Seperate this:

Any monster: the max amount of -xx% fire/lightning/cold resistance they can have is -100% fire/lightning/cold resistance. With CM applied though they will either have 0% resistances or +xx% fire/lightning/cold resistance.

Bosses like Mephisto will likely have more, like in Hell he has +75% cold resistance!

Now CM works this way: Say you have slvl 17 CM, that means you have an extra -100% cold resistance. With Mephisto this means that those -100 will be subtracted from his +75%, leaving Mephisto at -25% cold resistance.

And so it works for all the rest. Meaning if you build a pure BLizzard Sorc you had better damn well max your CM (slvl20+12skill=-175% cold resistance). That way you can be 100% sure that you will always inflict double damage (except against DCLone, since he has +95% cold resistance), since you will always be reducing monster to -100% cold resistance.

With a monster that has 0% cold resistance your char has -175% cold resistance from CM, the monsters resistance will only be reduced to -100% since that is the cap for max negative monster resistances ;)

ok, but if I have a meteor/fireball/orb sorc, where I can't afford to max cold mastery, going beyond -100 is wasted against monsters that don't have positive cold resist, right ?

I'm trying to decide between more points in CM versus more in fire mastery or fire bolt..
